Climate change isn’t real. Get your facts straight. You would not be in the oil and gas industry if you believed it was real. The united Conservative Party and the Conservative Party of Canada don’t believe in climate change. Oil and gas is the lifeline of Alberta and employs 25% of the province. It also provides a lot of royalties for our great province.

We need to ki-l the carbon tax and get rid of EV solar panel incentives etc. oil and gas must prevail.

Wow, there are some id--tic political rants in this thread. Climate change is real, however the anthropogenic impact is not well understood. One thing for certain is that carbon taxes do nothing for the environment or climate change, and are simply a tax vehicle to redistribute your wealth and hard earned money. Carbon taxes also raise the cost of almost every single consumer product. We need a government that will ki-l the carbon tax, and not bring in another similar tax or carbon based pricing…and that is a Conservative Government!

Trump will let oil and gas off easy for the simple reason it’s the first thing where American consumers will see massive price increases.

The Trump tariffs and annexation are real my friends. Trump will offer Canada a similar deal to that of Ukraine. In our case he will drop the tariffs if we sign 60% of our tariffs to the USA. Why higher? It’s to make up for the so many years of injustice Canada has caused the USA in Trump words. Those closely connected with the whitehouse have said that these tariffs are real. We may get additional tariffs like 25% then an additional 15% on TOP of that if we continue to bad mouth the USA after the hockey game or boo their national anthem. At 25% then 15% on top isn’t simply 25+15=40% but 1*(1.25) + 15% =1.438.

Trump has stated he likes Polievere as he’s on record as stating “Canada is broken” many times over. Polievere has stated he’s a huge supporter even before the election same with Daniel Smith and Doug Ford. These individuals will be well aligned in Trumps plan. We aren’t sure if this is a joke but he’s stated “We are the USA, you will be assimilated. We will take your technology and resources and move to wonderful blue states”.

Where feasible we will see many of our support roles (office and working from home) jobs move stateside. Trump wants to protect and create American jobs at all costs.

As for our company I can see layoffs starting with contractors and vendors not on direct payroll ie “T4” employees. These roles will start to move stateside. Trump will cancel TN visa and any sort of visa issued under free trade. These threats are real and are coming to our province.

We need to brace for large job losses here in Alberta.

We need strong leadership in Edmonton and Ottawa (hopefully people with backgrounds in finance and economics) that can navigate us through potentially significant job losses in Alberta. These losses through the ripple effect because of the significance be felt wider than oil and gas and companies that support our industry. It will be felt in tourism, education, healthcare etc as people will have less money and we will feel the ripple effects of this. We will most likely end up in a recession but need to do anything we can to soften the impact.

From my colleagues at other companies I have heard from is willing to drop tariffs on oil, gas and other non renewable energy resources in Alberta. He will be seeking 60% of all natural resources both proven and unproven in exchange for dropping any tariffs on these resources. Tariffs on other resources like the auto sector in Ontario, manufacturing etc will continue.

Trump has indicated that he looks forward to a strong alliance with mayor Daniel smith and the future “governor Polievere”. Daniel smith is already moving towards the goals of integration with the USA with the dismantling of healthcare in Alberta. Polievere is a strong Trump supporter and has repeatedly said “Canada is broken”. They are well aligned as part of his plan of making Canada the 51st state, and perhaps Greenland as the 52nd down the road. He is on record as saying he wants both territories for its resources for the benefit of America.

As part of the first phase of protecting jobs we may see many support roles, that is office roles move stateside. Roles such as project management, logistics, operations, Human Resources, finance and technology will transition to key American cities - likely red states.

Take these threats seriously. You may need to be prepared to move to the USA in order to protect your job. We may need that TN visa unless he cancels agreements under the free trade.

I’m on contract as a Sr. Project Manager / Sr. Business Analyst. I’m worried about being cut because I’m not a FTE would likely be cut first in order to protect jobs. I am having sleepless nights worrying about this. Thankfully the house is paid off, but I still have a wife and three kids to support, my parents and in-laws.

I’m hearing Canada may enter into a “trump recession”, but Alberta would be spared most of the hit. Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada would most likely see the biggest impact.

I heard HR is working on special projects with finance to cut headcount. Expect cuts to third party contractors, consultants who are not directly on company payroll first. These potential acuts are real and may occur next month. FTE cuts will potentially occur soon after.

These cuts have nothing to do with believing in the realities of climate change, thinking Daniel Smith and Pierre Polievere will be your grace and saviour. It has all to do with the potential tariffs coming down the pipeline from Mr. Trump. Friends these cuts are real. It’s time to seriously tighten our belts.

Wow
We have several family split between our company, CNRL and Suncor all in head office support positions. I wonder what is going on. One thousand this week? That will increase unemployment big time for Calgary.

The previous post is right we need leaders who don’t believe in climate change (even if it’s real) for the short term survival of our Province. 25% of our economy depends on oil and gas and that is no small change. Leaders like Ms. Smith and Mr. Polievere who don’t believe climate change is real is what we need for Alberta

At least we are fortunate we are in Alberta in the oil and gas industry. We are blessed with a lot of proven and unproven reserves. Trumps tariffs will affect the rest of Canada but oil and gas will get an exemption. They need Alberta resources. We have nothing to fear.

We do have to be worried about people who believe climate change is real. Stay away from these people. Stay away from EV cars, heat pumps etc. We have been blessed with great natural resources and should be able to use it.

We are thankful we have a premier that will fight against those who think climate change is real. It’s fake - oil and gas has nothing to do with the environment. As well as Pierre Polievere who will fight for the oil gas industry.

We should not worry about the environment at all. Let that be someone else’s problem.

Do we really need tariffs to be associated with layoffs? Aren’t layoffs just an automatic at cenusky?
