Thread regarding Ford layoffs

To the people worried about getting inconsistent and possibly getting laid off

Why do you guys genuinely care so much? You really want to save your job at a mediocre company like Ford with low pay, below average employees who are checked out?

Brush up your resume, start applying and looking for something else.

This company is absolute trash and is going bankrupt in 3 years or less. There is not one person I respect or look up to , everyone is just a seat warmer and just cashing checks.

This is the way. If this is your situation, there's really not much to worry about if you have a good network. Control your spending, and don't buy d-mb stuff. You'll be fine. Like people have been saying, you don't have control over this. You do your job and you are either chosen or not. Salary I'd say is the most up front indication. You load the balance sheet more as a GSR, then I'd expect some scrutiny. Your job doesn't define you. If you get the marching orders, just remember that unless you were doing absolutely nothing, there's a good chance there wasn't much you were going to do about it.

@OP. Ratings, hard work and meeting deadlines do not matter anymore. Layoffs in the last 5 years showed no distinction among those that achieved TA and the low performers. Totally "arbitrary" layoffs if you look only at performance. Just add age and pension, and a pattern emerges. Some people were "randomly" picked up to mask the ageism in the layoffs. Therefore, I'd not worry too much (just a little) about the inconsistent (how/what) since managers were forced to give those.

The !diots at the helm haven't changed, so why things would change at FMC? People should realize that they have no control over who's getting the boot, so they should take it easy. Inconsistent or not, we are all in the same sinking boat. The ones closer to retirement should be the main target of layoffs, plus some young "kids" to balance the average age and avoid lawsuits.

All Ford FTE and Agency should have money saved for the storm brewing. They should be looking for another job, particularly the younger crowd. The job market is not great, but there are some openings (with a lot of competitors). I agree about brushing up the resume, updating some skills, and start looking for a new job. Remember you can always say no, if the offer is too low.

In my case, I guess like many of my age here, is harder to get picked by another company. Plus the salary I have at Ford is better than most job openings. OP, you say 3 years before bankruptcy? I am fine with that. But I am sure my case is not common, so I still advise people to check the finances, and cut expenses.

Good Luck!

@a4+1, I always love it when people say they stay at their job because of the economy. Yes, and that economy is why you are paid what you are. Enough of you are sheep that can’t do anything else so accept the conditions as is and spend your weekend complaining on an anonymous web site.

I really don’t care, I’m already well respected in my field. I can find work elsewhere. I enjoy the WFH aspect and working on cars is theoretically cool. I do consistent work and I don’t need a meddling underperforming company to give me a substance less performance review.

I want them to rip the bandaid off and stop with the charades. Plus, the people doing the evaluating are the ones that need their skills and talents evaluated. If anything I want to expose the imposters for who they actually are. Ex failed tech Silicon Valley tech bros who failed up.

Due to our soft white-collar jobs, most of us should be in relatively good health. There is nothing wrong with pursuing a hands-on blue-collar route. HVAC, carpentry, handy-man, handy-lady, auto repair, truck driver, etc. These are jobs which can't be shipped to LCC. Classes are offered at your local community college for a reasonable tuition rate.

Because of the macro economy and job market. Especially for the Michiganders, whatever other jobs they can find have a sizeable chance of being even less stable or lower paid than Ford's.

Further complicated by the fact that some folks here are at an age that some employers may not favor; or that their skills are no longer competitive due to Ford not giving employees learning opportunities over the years.
