Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

It's your job

Some of the complaints I read here are valid, but others are simply unreasonable. Working somewhere (not just at T, but anywhere) is not about respect or feeling good. It’s your job. You do the work, and they pay you. That’s it. It’s not your family. Expecting respect and love from an employer is unrealistic. I genuinely cannot understand some of the perspectives here.

Except that not long ago the company preached the importance of, "Work/Life Balance". I am fully aligned with the transactional nature of employment, but I don't agree with your position that the employee should not be respected. After 18 years of dedicated service, being treated like a number and holding a presence report above accomplishments is nonsense.

Hired as a hybrid employee, promised med insurance when I retire. The company has broken a contract with me and many other employees.

It’s not unreasonable to expect a dedicated workspace, cleanliness, working equipment, office supplies and toiletries.

If you think that’s asking too much, you’re a full blown corporate clown.

I don’t understand either. If they just fired you you would say but that is not fair I have all great ratings! Everything is not fair.

I think I know which VP is the OP.

OP obviously has an assigned desk and probably gets parking paid for it too. OP obviously has not completed required emotional intelligence training in PLE.

It’s your job and you used to be provided tools to do your job (like an equipped desk) and now you aren’t. But it’s your job so quit complaining. Sure. What a narcissistic nimwit post. Of course you don’t get it.

Not one single job I’ve had at this company has actually required an in office presence. Historically office days are social days and not productive.

I worked at several jobs at AT&T. When the crew you work with is also the crew that you go out on occasion to have drinks after work, work becomes kind of like the non-alcoholic part of the party. Not all of my career was good, but a majority of it was, and none of it was terrible. And it's nice watching the money grow in the 401K. I lucked out. There was no work from home at the time, and hence, no angst about RTO.

All of these concerns that seem like the end of the world didn't exist while I was there. Retired now and on the company Med Advantage.
