Help! I’m stuck at Dell for 5 years as my first job. Is there hope left for me?

Get out while you still can! There is still hope for you.
You'll be fine. My first grad job was IBM - same corporate nonsense and zero decent payrises.
Apply for a startup and be free!
Dell is like a picnic table full of greasy highly processed gas station food.
The longer you stay the more you are forced to eat from that table.
After a while you think it's good food and eat willingly
Before you know it your gut microbiome is ruined and you have weird bowl movements.
No. No hope for you. You’re fu---d. You’ve learned nothing new at Dell and your technical skills have atrophied to the point of uselessness.
Your only hope is to just su-k on Dell’s te-t until you retire.
Enjoy!
Don’t quit until you have another job. Employers are more likely to hire you if you’re working for someone else. Then there’s no awkward questions about why you’re not working.
I started at an OEM company like Dell when I graduated college. Terrible mistake. I felt like my engineering degree was worthless. Turns out every technical thing that I wanted to do is outsourced.
I got laid off and I applied to smaller companies who were looking for people with heavy technical skills and experiences. They were surprised I didn’t know some answers considering my employment history. I guess they were under the impression that companies like Dell had larger involvement with their products in terms of development and troubleshooting issues…. NOPE! We just “architect” new ideas and make PowerPoints about them and pray that product managers and ODMs would accept it.
Get out while your relevant skills are still relatively fresh in your mind.
Before rushing out - remember a few things.
Don’t leave unless you have verifiable offer in hand
You will encounter a certain amount of corporate BS no matter where you go. It used to be tolerable here until our leadership began ro resemble a team consisting of Daffy Duck and Wile E. Coyote.
If you are still looking for a job, consider taking some outside courses to beef up the CV. Remember you get $5500 in tuition reimbursement.
Lastly - Good luck to you, I wish you the best in your career.
Longer you stay the more problems you will have leaving due to diminishing market skills.
So get out asap.
yup, tell your manager all he wants to hear and make a resume and get looking for a new job asap. Just remember you can't trust dell management.
