I was WFRed in one of the big purges this summer. Believe me when I say that working at Dell is a level of misery that is impossible to comprehend while you are there. When you are chasing absurd targets (like AOP targets assigning 20% growth to client products in a flat to down market) and dealing with eternal layoffs impacting your organization over and over again, it isn't good. When you have absorbed your fired coworker's job duties on top of your own multiple times, it takes a toll. When your workplace is overcrowded, uncomfortable, and absolutely unsuited for high-leverage or sensitive work, it's not great.
When you are so scared to be laid off that ignore how miserable you really are, how sociopathic and clueless the leadership has become, and how your health and mental well-being are in the toilet, you can find yourself in a bad place. Tell Dell is just the beginning.
When you leave Dell and join a real company with decent values, a healthy culture, and good leadership, it's absolutely shocking to realize how bad it was at Dell.
