Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

I’m taking the buyout

First, let me say that I’m sorry for everything that’s happening to all of us. There’s a high likelihood that layoffs will follow the buyouts. I’m deeply sorry for everyone who depends on this job—which is the vast majority of us—and now has to worry even more about their future. I’m taking the buyout because I’m close to retirement, and I can’t wait to see this company in the rearview mirror. I wish the best of luck to all of you.

Be careful! Some states will not allow you to collect unemployment if you resign. No matter if UHC says they'll not contest the unemployment claim. If you voluntarily leave, then it's a wrap with some states - flat out denial. Please weigh these choices carefully!

In NY if you quit your job you can’t get unemployment. If you are voluntarily leaving it will not be approved.

I’m starting to think I’m going to take the buyout.
I love my role and been with UHC 3 years. Just scored a ‘5’ on my review (I obviously take pride in my work). But now I’m so stressed.. I don’t want to pass up on the buyout and end up unemployed anyways (my state unemployment is trash at $275/week). The buyout would benefit me financially, but damn!! I don’t wanna willingly sign myself up to go, but can’t afford to be blindsided later on in the year.

I would advise no one take take the buyout unless you close to retirement I was laid off the first time July 2024 and I came back in a new job the very next month now I will wait to see if they lay me off with the layoff you get 1 week of full pay for each year you been at the company and it comes in one lump sum exempt your taxes for that check plus you can rollover your 401 to a separate Rollover IRA plan with fidelity they will even help you with process. It’s always better in most at will states to let the company let you go first let them pull the trigger with the way things are going unemployment will probably be extended or even increase especially if that new pandemic in china reaches the USA I can’t stress enough do not take that buyout let them lay you off it’s much better!

The short time frame under duress is part of the plan so people use emotion instead of logic to choose the path.

I’m considering taking the buyout. My states unemployment is cr-p. I’d be better off taking the offer I think in the long run. I’d have more control of my situation. But I’m so perplexed. If I accept it and later find I wouldn’t have been let go….ill be pi---d! I love my job and my analysts! And a WEEK to make such a huge decision?!

Check out unemployment because it’s a lump sum that we are getting you maybe able to collect it. In my state , I live in Ny you can receive unemployment

I think the buyout is a good option for those close to retirement or those who have other income. It’s unfortunate those left after the buyout will be basically wondering if each day will be the day they will be let go. It’s so said.

I would like to take the buy out because I’m over this company, but the likelihood of not receiving unemployment is the reason I’m not taking it. Still expecting to be laid off, but at least I’ll be able to receive unemployment.
