Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

ATT Pennywise Pound Foolish

Inability to do precision cutting and God forbid they pay severance. Could have all been executed in 12-18 months but combination of inability to assess workforce along with over indexing with DEI sludge all throughout the company.

“ There are many leaders here that likely know they have fat but won’t cut because they don’t want to lose budget or perceived importance.”

Bingo! The stuffed suits are all about safeguarding their little fiefdoms.

“If the job is useless then T would have no problem getting rid of the employee.”

Wrong. There are many leaders here that likely know they have fat but won’t cut because they don’t want to lose budget or perceived importance.

"have a job at T that is actually useless"

If the job is useless then T would have no problem getting rid of the employee. They could just identify certain job titles in specific segments and say those positions are not needed anymore. And that is the way companies not targeting a protected class of employees does things, and that is why T does not do it.

@ap+1jmy8jkzs - you sound defensive. My guess is that you are over 50, have a job at T that is actually useless and you ought to be let go, or both.

"This is yet another poor management decision by our fearless leaders."

On top of the decision to take away medicare/medicaid bridge which would have gotten more people off the books without severance and spread the payments out over several years and continually reduced head count. There are many people who want out now.

That decision was a false dichotomy. Precision cuts would have freed up cash flow sooner than later in this job market, people have to be utterly despondent to leave voluntarily without an offer. This is yet another poor management decision by our fearless leaders.

They had a choice.

Stock buybacks

Or

Provide severance

They chose the stock buybacks because they don’t care about us. They only care about the price of the stock.
