There is no way those who get laid off didn’t see it coming…..
I don’t believe anyone truly gets blindsided

I didn’t see it coming last year and it happened. I was one of the best on my team. I was the one who wanted to stay too. The job market is horrible right now. Cherish everyday you are still there.
Group displaced yesterday thought the meeting was to advise on organizational move as they have been told they would be moving under a new manager. The team manager and the managers manager did not know that a layoff was happening. Both got laid off. All functions moved to India.
@c2+1jnfmhgaw So true- Definitely when—not if!
And I can’t wait to hear when my former d:ckwad manager finally gets displaced. Worst person roaming the SFO area!
Sometimes managers get re-assurance from senior leaders that certain teams will not be impacted in the short term, and they communicate that to their teams. Then, at the last minute the layoff goal goes from 10% to 20% and those same people get canned.
Former Director in CIB displaced on 2/4. Completely caught off guard. Glad to be gone though. Still watch this board, as I have many friends still at Wells. Still in my notice period with 7 months of severance out in front of me. Good to be gone.
I think you mean people should not be surprised by location strategy layoffs but people get laid off for other reasons that some have stated which can come as a surprise.
Almost 30 years in now, I've seen probably 30+ people get displaced over the years. The way I look at it, I can only dodge the bullets for so long. It is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when.
I mean when you’re sending folks to India to train pretty much the writing on the wall
@bf - Ok LOL
Well, then you are naive or trying to pick a fight. This post is irrelevant.
My friend's husband lost his job at Wells a year ago. He was 100% blindsided. His own manager didnt know about until last minute.
Layoffs are the elimination of a role or business unit- not an individual. Many people are just plugging along until they get told. Layoffs are not about individual performance, so don't blame these people for not seeing it coming. It could happen to any of us.
Many people were blind sighted. Specifically those who were hitting all metrics
Bravo-Sierra.
Several people that I have worked with in Technology...Cybersecurity...were displaced and their manager wasn't in the loop.
