Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Stocks down, morale is lower… how sc--wed are we?

Despite higher-than-expected Q4 results, TGT stock is still dropping. We just can’t seem to right the ship. What are your thoughts on what’s next for Target?

All the negative remarks about people not pulling their own weight has to be either the CEO or TGT leaders (or a disgruntled ex-employee) making condescending assumptions about people they know nothing about, and how efficient they work. I am part of a team that ALL work weekends to a certain extent, and they are quite efficient. We have been told we are a "well oiled machine", and we get sh-t done, but at what expense? Time away with our families and partners? Get a life, bitter queen.

“ To the person saying their partner is overworked. That's ridiculous. Your partner probably doesn't know how to use tools and applications to expedite work. One thing I noticed while working at Target, is people take forever to stretch out work and nobody looks to improve any process. I would look into why your partner is actually working overtime.”

Clown, go back to spraying for Ants for 4 minutes and billing your home service customers an hour. Go on, get.

I know quite a few people who have left Target corporate in the past few months for better jobs. Non-existent promotions is a big reason, fake Minnesota nice culture is another. You can't work people to the bone when there is nothing to strive for since all the jobs are moving to TII anyways. To the previous commenter's point, if you call out inefficiencies and propose different ways of doing things you get labeled as "not a team player" or "disagreeable". But if you have enough coffee chats with the right people and contribute nothing you are on the fast lane to moving up.

I can attest that Target overworks their staff as it is not unheard of put in time after 5pm, and into the weekends just to meet deadlines (as I am married to a Target Corp professional). With WFH I feel it has made it easier for the company to squeeze their staff to keep churning out work, and keep them tethered EVEN when they are on vacation. Takes forever to get promoted as well, while the mediocre people who do just enough work to get by get noticed more. Meanwhile, if you bring up feeling overworked, and calling out inefficient processes, you are accused of not managing your time well. It's a YOU problem, not them. Less staff, squeeze out as much as you can get with less people. The people are great; and that is what my SO tells me why she has stayed for so long, but I feel for her being overworked & underappreciated. Who knows what's to come in 2025.

Many customers are sick of Target “owned brand” cr-p. It’s great to have a cheaper store brand alternative, but the national brands should also be an option

“ Working over 50 hours from campus, finding a new job should be a snap”

Pure Cope. Good luck finding any job in this economy.

The only roles still hiring are for bobble-head VPs and Sr Directors who can golf and smile at meetings saying nothing 10 hours a day. But you need to be from the right fraternity or college football team to even get an interview at those jobs.

WFH, there are jobs for you too so you don't need day care and walk kids to the bus stop. It is called Door Dash. It offers the work life balance you seek

I heard the merchandising team is targeted for layoffs. In my opinion it should be the corporate responsibility team. It's overstaffed and they add no value.

They say “let Target be Target” and ever thus.

As most those I know are working 6AM to 9pm, leaving campus some days after the janitors are gone, then working at home … leaders are putting Spring Break trips on their calendars coinciding with major production launches. Everyone I know does 4 hours Saturday and a few Sunday night to meet deadlines.

But lets be honest… that truly is Target being Target.

I fully expect we all get laid off once the crunch ends and the production starts.

The problem is that leadership believes there is something inherently special about Target and that consumers will shop there because it's Target and we're special (look at our amazing owned brands! Look at the latest useless Tabitha Brown collection!). We're basically red Walmart but worse in just about every single way.

All you have to do is look at calendars. “Leaders” have one status after another all day everyday who are under qualified hires. We’re back to the overstaffed days. New software breaks every single day. Disappointing place to work .

Target neither great nor bad - meh. You all can split hairs on technology wishes or "new" ideas or cross platform synthesis, but the end of the day target carries half the sku numbers of its competitor, in half the stores, in zero countries outside USA, and when trips to Target require a final stop at Walmart to buy missing items on list, well...what I described above Target has been rewarded for but times change and when shoppers discovered walmart isn't so scary that is when Target started losing.

Honestly, target is a gluttony of too many workers. Many have never worked anywhere else. They are coddled by the work-life balance of the previous regime. I see no reason why 6-8000 can't be let go. Life is more than meetings, coffee and getting kids off to school! Good luck finding rea work! Do you remember how to get up and go to work?

Lmao. If you don't believe what I am saying look in the mirror and lie to yourself that you work 40 full hours a week! Ha ha

We need a strategy that gets us further than opening new stores and blaming the weather for low sales. We need sizable investments in technology and logistics, and an understanding of where the business can optimize and take risks. We need more people who understand Target, retail, and e-commerce, who aren’t afraid of change.

There are hints of all this across the business, but it’s inconsistent and moving too slowly.

We have to hold teams accountable to thinking and planning for the future, and building impactful, lasting strategies beyond just tomorrow. Too many leaders and teams are stuck in the past and aren’t fully embracing new ideas. Product owners are still living in 2021. Merchandising is out of touch. Design and engineering are often-ignored advisers instead of drivers. TII teams are working without much thought to quality or the bigger picture.

Target can succeed, but it has to start at the top.
