Why do individuals speak so loudly during phone conversations? It would be advisable to lower your voice and communicate as though you are sharing a confidential matter.

I blame noise cancelling headset/ear buds. Some people just have naturally loud voices that carry but I think a lot of people don't realize they are being loud. Speaker phone function should be disabled all together since we are required to use some kind of headset.
New York City types complaining about loud people, that's pretty funny. I've met a lot of new yorkers and most of them have been annoyingly loud. I think it's just a regional trait.
It makes me sound really busy and smart
There was this Irish woman who always talked so loud that it hurt my ears when I was using my headset. I asked her to lower her voice but she still didn't understand how loud her voice was. She was a not-so-smart senior manager at Wells Fargo. I looked at her LinkedIn page, it said she was a vice president of a retail store in a countryside. How did this woman get a senior manager position at Wells Fargo? But her loud voice continued during every conference call and I had to adjust my headset volume each time. But eventually she got fired because of her incompetence.
Iselin, NJ is notorious for this.
I can work from home much better because there is no loud people in my home office. That's one of the reasons why RTO is inefficient.
Those who are too loud should be cut by the DOGE.
Let's be honest. Anyone coming onto a call after an exhilarating collaboration session is bound to be a little exuberant.
Try to cut one another a little slack and view it from their perspective. Great deeds sometimes come with a little disturbance.
ahhh office life, i love it!
Often times its a “Hey look at me” maneuver. An effort to show that “you’re engaged”.
I’ve said a time or two on calls when asked questions by a manager:
“I’d have to discuss this with you in a more private venue as the proximity of others is too close at the moment. While it may not be their intention to overhear the conversation, they can not help it. Unless of you course you don’t mind me airing out the team dirty laundry in public, dropping names, incidents, close call and\or ball dropping scenarios”.
In a NYC office, there is an Asian woman who sits in a “first come first served” office (not assigned). She takes all calls with the office door wide open and the volume of her phone speaker on blast. To top it off, she walks around the inside of the office and then steps outside the office door and looks around while on each call. I guess to see if there is any reaction from the people unfortunate enough to sit in a nearby cubicle. Noticed over a few days. Very unprofessional, entitled and odd behavior.
How bout more actual offices? The cubes are the worst.
They are loud because they are narcissists.
I loud becasue i am passionate
Voice modulation and realizing your situational awareness is a sign of good breeding.
Semper Fi
They actually did give a note out. It’s on that cardboard thingy that’s on every desk.
or just have this running on a continuous loop on any and all monitors around the office (hallways, meeting rooms, "vacant" desks, etc.) https://youtu.be/TuRo6SLY44k?t=68
Ask HR for a note you can post in the area, reminding people of manners and common sense.
Why we should just be able to work from home.
Were you at the New York office today?
