Thread regarding JPMorgan Chase & Co. layoffs

Darwin's theory fails in Chase

Darwin said only those species survive and progress who are fittest.
But in Chase only those species survive (layoff) and progress (promotion) who can speak Telugu.

My manager speaks in Telugu most of the time during brainstorming session around his desk. All of my peers speaks in same languages with him. Because of this, I miss many key discussion about my project. I can't raise this problem to my ED as he also speaks in Telugu.

BIGGEST PROBLEM - My managers is also grooming my peers of same languages for promotion by giving high visibility projects and recognizing them for minor achievements. On other side, he is downplaying my achievement. I am better in technical skill and soft skill than my peers but I am facing a glass ceiling due to this.

Additionally, my manager is not comfortable working with Directs who don't speak Telugu.

How to handle this situation?

CEO Jamie Dimon has said those a--holes who create toxic work environment must be fired.
Telugu gang is marginalizing all non-telugus in work environment. They not given visibility for promotion and in worst case they are also being put on lay off list in unfair way.
We need to raise our voice to JD.

Non Telugus in Jersey City are on layoff lists

Just 2 days back, 200 Telugus were doing unethical work in Fannie Mae and got kicked out.
They are doing similar things in Chase by grooming their own people for promotion and putting non-Telugus in layoff list.

My entire department is hijacked by Telugu and they are manufacturing layoff of non telugus even if they are better resources. I am scared.

To the id--t who said “English is the official language of the US”.

This thread is for teams in INDIA.

And even if it wasn’t - you yourself barely speak good enough English that is comprehensible. Is your ancestry 100% Native American? If not, you’re as much an immigrant as any other immigrant - third or fourth or fifth generation immigrant - still doesn’t make you “American”, according to your own team’s logic.

Look around and smell the roses - stop being bitter, stop hating other human beings for no reason at all. We all run red underneath.

Overall 95% of them just get info from other telegu from other team by speaking in telegu and showcase in this team. It’s easy for them as they share info only with their telegu people. Very unprofessional. It’s like a gang operating inside chase. Chase should do a background check on their college degree and other details they provided during hiring. One guy in my team was fooling the entire crowd about Apigee gateway onboarding. He was highlighting this as a blocker for 6 months as he don’t know how to do it. I was laughing to myself how these people have the guts to show up and project they know all attitude. Such people survive with good bonus and salary while others who has real skills and knowledge are treated like trash.

In my Org, one Telugu manager hired all 25 Telugu contractors for 1 year of project.

It’s a scam. Telegus are hiring their own people, and even some managers are accepting bribes from Indian employees. There’s significant fraud occurring in the recruitment process (Check Dallas office).

@OP , based on where you are , go up 2 or 3 levels, and speak directly with your department MD ( who ever is white) . He/she will look into it because they would not want such malpractice in their org. They will certainly take action against your manager. After your manager comes to know, you will face retaliation in a subtle way. But you would have done what’s needed to eradicate this malaise. Be prepared to change teams down the line, under the same MD if possible.

Post from TheLayoff.com

My former team consisted of individuals from India or Nepal, and who were incompetent imbeciles that delivered poor-quality software solutions. My Indian manager was more focused on meeting deadlines than on the quality of our work. As you can imagine, we often faced numerous crises to resolve, and our release cycles frequently extended into the early hours of Saturday morning. I'm glad I am no longer part of such a micromanaged cesspool of a company.

worked for the two L1/H1 visa managers, don't even care which language they spoke.
both had virtually non-existent ppl management skills or EQ. If i knew that there had been multiple cases open against them in HR, i would have never joined the team. but those who opened those cases (surprise, surprise - all women) were long gone.

had a friend (women) who worked in predominantly male indian team (non-IT). there were only two white women: both complained; one was fired, another, with superior communication skills , stamina, and perseverance got in a lengthy writing contest with her boss providing sheets and sheets of written explanations to HR.
I had another friend who managed to remove her supervisors (white), so i am not saying it's completely impossible, but eventually only one thing matters : who is behind the offenders. if their bosses are from the same cast, it's easier to just get up and leave, because, hey, we are all from the wrong cast.
One can probably provide "racial discrimination" as a cause of departure

Those who are suggesting to record conversation or bring to HR are definitely those who have either never experienced this or they don't have their eyes and ears open.

When Telugu Manager is grooming another Telugu Direct for promotion barring other deserving candidate then it's very subtle. This is never said in words so you can't record it.

Telugu manager will give non-Telugu as garbage work which doesn't have visibility and you won't be able to get even 1S in your rating. He will never recommend you to his manager for your promotion until you are super critical and he feels risk of leaving you if not promoted.

Solution to this problem is bringing non-Telugu diversity.

Start secretly recording and document.
When they finally get rid of you or leave on your own. Give Chase HR a choice, pay up or expose the dirty laundry.

I won't mind if they speak in Telugu, but if they promote their own guy even though you are performing better and got forbid they put you on lay off list to save their own Telugu guy then it's a HUGE HUGE problem.

I am on the same boat. We have 3 telegu dev and one telegu PO and one telegu tester. They all speak everything privately to cover up their mistakes. They only share after they rehearse among themselves on what to share and how to move the game ahead. Also the. Manager is a non tech guy who is scared to loose his job , so he joins them even if he don’t speak the same language. He has no guts and no skills. I feel ashamed of their unprofessional behavior. They loose common sense and support each other just because they all speak the language. We can’t take any action as they are over crowded.

@e7

That is indeed concerning. OP can ask pointed questions during these meetings (as part of their stealth evidence gathering while recording) which will show how this grooming for promotions and downplaying OP's achievements are occuring.

OP can ask "earnest/innocent" questions which entrap the arrogant a-holes, without the arrogant a-holes even knowing it's happening. Again, this can work to build a case, as long as OP is calm, patient, and very focused to shed light on this darkness of "professional" deeds.

It would be great if OP's place of business is in a ONE-party consent state: https://recordinglaw.com/united-states-recording-laws/one-party-consent-states/

This sh!t needs to STOP.

No one is noticing the point mentioned by OP as "Biggest Problem". Telugu Managers are grooming Telugu Directs for promotion and downplaying non-Telugus achievement even if they are more deserving. This is going to hit everyone very hard if Telugu gang takes overs a department.

If your knucklehead manager is not comfortable working with Directs who don't speak Telugu.

You should communicate with the knucklehead using another method such as using hand gestures.
Next time you cross paths try flipping the knucklehead the bird. I bet you he will understand what you are communicating to him then.

Check your local/state laws on recording consent
https://recordinglaw.com/party-two-party-consent-states/
and if legal, be sure to record with your phone (maybe start recording before you step into the meeting/s. Look into being able to do it undetected for Zoom/Teams calls, too) during as many of these instances as you can, before bringing the subject up to anyone else in your workplace. Don't even mention to a "trusted" peer, much less to your manager/guilty parties, or their supervisors or HR yet.

You want to gather together enough info./proof to back up your claim as you can, BEFORE taking action, without allowing the opposition any sort of notification or even indication that you aren't OK with what they're doing. Because as soon as they hear/know of you taking umbrage with their actions, they will probably either deny doing it, feign innocence/ignorance, and/or start some sort of retaliation against you.

Cut them off at the pass with stealth precision and timing.
Think things through, and map out a plan of action to your advantage.

Be smart, and best of luck to you!

Speak to your manager and tell them this is illegal and you will not stand up for it. Additionally, make sure you document all your projects and provide her/him a weekly update. Hold your manager accountable in those updates by recommending which projects should be highlighted to their management team. Your manager willl start respecting you.

English is now the official language of the USA: https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/executive-order-designating-english-the-official-language-the-united-states

You can sue these people, and Chase, for excluding and marginalizing you in a professional setting, for their deliberate choices to shut you out of discussions and insulting you to your face, by their speaking a language other than English in the workplace during "professional" meetings. It's not like they're just speaking their language amongst themselves, while on breaks, they're doing it purposefully to exclude you and other English-only speaking co-workers during important internal meetings! They are blatantly breaking the law. Don't let them get away with it. What they're doing is illegal.

Chase is complicit as long as it's been brought to their attention and they do nothing to resolve the issue, or sidestep, or don't do enough to comply with the law.
So call them out on this in writing.
Bring it up to HR in writing.
Document everything with names, dates, circumstances, and build a case.
Then drop the hammer on these arrogant a-holes.

You will probably get pushed out in the process, so prepare to get a different job, but if you want their toxicity to stop (or even just to get a nice $ettlement in your law$uit against them), go for it!

Only other option is to just quit and find something else without filing a case. They think they own the joint, but they don't. PUSH BACK or get pushed out. Your choice.

Good luck!
