Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

VGS next cuts schedule - Serious replies ONLY

I am in VGS and we just had yet another round last week with half of my team being cut. Yes half of my team. Bunch of people managers also impacted. I have been interviewing for weeks as something was in the air but every where it seems they are interviewing to justify that they tried choosing the best candidate while they already knew the choice. Must be Sam’s brilliant DEI driven strategy or something.

Question is: when are the next cuts scheduled? Seems to be quarterly for us but if you have intel let us know.

PS: VGS is really VGTS and the culture is from the old GTS. Disregard and disrespect.

As long as Shankar is the boss.. toxic culture from GTS will stay .. they can keep renaming it whatever…
Toxicity flows from top to bottom.. your random middle manager are not toxic for no reason.. they are toxic because their bosses are toxic..

VGS should be called Verizon Garbage Services. The best thing that ever happened to Bill to Cash was leaving VGS and their incompetent leaders that copy and pasted B2Cs smart ideas and took credit for it. God help anyone that remains in VGS or their “support” teams. Escape while you can!

(Full disclosure - I was cut from GTS and luckily found a new home in VZ.)

Don't ever assume there is a 'safe space' out there. But what you can do move away from the areas that are prone to cuts or very questionable intentions, and towards the areas that actually have real leadership.

GTS has been the way it is for a long time, hiding lies within truths by changing a word here/there or the timing of the message ('no riffs planned the rest of the year', exactly a week after they notified people their jobs were gone). They pretend to care about your career, but in the end, you are just headcount when the priority and constant messaging is 'what can we off shore' because they can't manage a check-book nor expectations. "Over promise and under deliver" should be their motto.

In reality, just assume the cuts are around the corner, and move on from VGTS. You can't trust the messaging nor the messenger. Sage advice - NETWORK LIKE CRAZY outside of GTS, and use those contact to find the new opportunities, especially since not all are always posted. If they know you are interested in that area, you at least have a leg up on others.

Existing schedules mean nothing when leadership and “strategic plans” change continuously. I would just try to get out of VGS asap.

The safest place to go is finance. They have been unaccountable for bloat and inefficiency for years and it won’t change anytime soon. It’s There’s 2+ overlapping people for every single finance role. Noah’s ark if you will. They get approval to add even more overlapping headcount as their siloed leaders either don’t know or don’t care to understand the existing bloat across groups. They just want their own teams to be best in class art of the possible when the reality is their teams are pitted against overlapping finance groups in pointless power battles. It’s bad for the company, bad for morale, bad for efficiency, bad for careers, and especially bad for the bottom line. Yet there’s no accountability. Finance is the way to go as they will never downsize. They will continue to add nonsensical layers while the real decisions are made across the top (vsp) to make up for the failure of finance to influence and achieve goals. And then finance will add even more headcount, deck slides and systems to track the savings.
