Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why work from home after hours?

The company has made it very clear that we only get credit for working when we are in the office - AiS (A-s in Seat).

After being in the office for 8+ hours, why is anyone going home and working when you are not receiving credit for this work?

If there is too much work to complete in an 8 hour day, that's not your problem. The company needs to hire more help.

And don't forget that if you turn on your laptop after coming home, they'll record that you are working at home and the presence reports will probably flag you for that.

If getting the job done is within the office I’ll drive back in and work from office and they will wait until I arrive back in the office. I do not work from home ever. It’s against the corporate policy to work anywhere but the office. It’s how and where we work.

You corporate virtual signalers realize that your efforts will all be in vain? Whether you work 40 or 80 hours, your # will be coming (like all of us peons).

Just make sure you talk the talk and walk the walk, when the building you work in loses internet connectivity.

They will ask you to go home and log in. You let them know that’s against corporate policy.

Depends on your job really. Some teams are 24/7 with on calls. Me wfh after hours just means I don’t have to stay at the office later or drive in. Yeah it su-ks that’s the expectation of 24/7. The network doesn’t shut down at 5pm. Things break and get damaged at all hours. Somebody has to fix it. Shame we don’t get paid extra for those hours.

It’s pretty clear you weren’t working even the baseline 40 if this is your attitude about 8 hours in the office. You were clearly part of the target audience for RTO.

Years ago I was working with a co worker on a project. I told her it was approaching 5 and we could resume the next day. She responded that she had been working multiple 12 hr days. I still ended the call, spent time with my family, and resumed the next day. Her 12 hour days didn’t save her from getting laid off after declining to follow the work

So, please tell me why your strong workout will save you

It’s clear that some people who are against OP in the comments don’t have a life. Too bad then cause the rest of us want to live outside of work after this stupid a-s RTO policy.

“Because this is part of a management position? Getting the job done.”

Leadership chose to say that work done outside of certain locations does not count as work. Working 7 hours at the office and 2 hours at home has less value than working 8 hours in the office in their pathetic little minds.

Getting the job done, whether it takes 6 hours, 8 hours or more, SHOULD be the only focus. These people don’t care about that. They care about getting rid of people and using presence as an excuse.

If that’s their attitude then my attitude is that I will do 8 hours and no more, thanks. I’m not a lawyer logging billable hours so this surveillance cr_p is just that, cr_p.

Point well taken but, with so much to do, I have no choice. Their expectations of my deliverables haven’t changed so either I sit in the office late and do it or finish up at home. :-(

I’ll get the same bonus and bsma regardless of my hours or deadlines so yeah not working from home ever again. Why would I? The only work/life balance is one I create for myself. T doesn’t give a sh-t so I’ll match energy.

Clearly, home is an unsuitable place to work.

8 & skate.
They don't care about you, why should you care about the work?

Never work from home. We are 8x5 RTO now and I love it! Working 15 less hours per week on average. I don’t even know what to do with all the extra time.

If it’s an exempt management position then they shouldn’t be tracking our hours
