Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

Imma miss y'all motherpha cars

It's been a long timing coming. This has got to be the strangest 2 years for any company.

An investor turning a company upside down.

A 'review' that should have been kept quiet from the start instead of torturing employees for months.

A review shouldn't have taken as long as it is to close after such as a 'review' announcement. And it's been even longer.

Let's hope the path forward isn't as bad as the past year.

My favorite phrase I learned on these threads is the “consultant leaders”, talk about hiring what we didn’t need then disguising them as something else, the amount of waste on that debacle was insane. They are experts at fake it until you make it and who put them in charge of people again?

I don’t think anybody is pointing fingers at peers as much as they are attacking the Crown culture. People were wrongfully given power to hire employees that weren’t needed. There are whole departments at Crown that could be one person’s job. What you end up with are a bunch of people with vague job descriptions and fake titles.

What a bunch of miserable people . Pointing fingers at peers, grow up.You been whining about everyone for a year plus and yet you sit stomping feet, likely not working at the same time and collecting your checks . Maybe you have part of blame as well for your own situation in life .

The problem with Crown has always been they have given managers too many employees when the amount of work is not justifiable. In particular, it seems like the PM role is just generalized as a senior level role of any other role in the company. These people have no idea about basic project management practices, but some manager needs their employee headcount to feel like they are achieving something. If that “PM” were to put their knowledge and skills on a resume and apply for a PM position outside of Crown, they’d get laughed at.

Yes there are PMs that have crazy workloads, but there are plenty who have no business having the title. As a tower PC for a year, I had to teach a PM, who’d been a PM for like a decade, how to forecast financials in PMT

Y'all are crazy. I have worked with many PM's over the years and all of them worked hard and had to deal with an insane level of stress. Towers and fiber side pm's have equally insane work loads.

Fibers presence on in Southpoint compared to Tower is minimal

Does anyone know what will happen to office buildings with both fiber and tower employees after the sale?

If Zayo buys fiber, will fiber employees work in the same office as Crown tower folks? Will Zayo have ownership of office buildings?
The Southpointe office in Canonsburg is fiber and tower employees. If zayo buys fiber, what will happen to fiber employees at Southpointe?

“PMs in my area I think work 2 hours.”

There are very few people at Crown with the title of Project Manager who actually manage projects. It seems like this title is just given to people when they don’t have an actual job specific title. Crown HR is like Oprah giving away free stuff. “You get a project manager title” and “you get a project manager title”… “everybody gets a project manager title!”

The CMs in my market work 4 out days max, most of them aren't in the field more than a day or two per week.

From someone who has had several positions on both the small cell/fiber and tower side of the business I can tell you that the folks in fiber have double the amount of work on their plates than towers. Working in towers was relaxed. It was very bloated and if I were being honest, it always had too many people. It was part of Crown’s culture that made it one of the best places to work 10 years ago. Fiber runs on a skeleton crew. I am sure I am going to get moans and groans from people saying “you haven’t been in my position” or “you don’t know what you’re talking about” but generally speaking, towers has it much easier than fiber. Some people are going to be shocked when they find out they actually have to work at other companies if they end up getting cut.

Try being a CM and working 4 hours… ya sure! This company is pushing people to the brink and unfortunately most don’t have a backup plan, hence why they’re still here.

Horrible leadership and worse management. Just wait, Zayo is worse.

Despite what folks cry about on here, the reality is that most employees aren't working hard (and why should they?), and are cashing paychecks as long as the shell of a once-great company will pay them. Here's to many years more of 100% AI and sub-4 hour workdays!
