IBM has laid people off every year and many times more frequently than that-meaning could be several times a year for about the last 30 years! they do it in small enough numbers each time that they could fly under the radar but enough people annually to be significant amount of people. actually even 1 is too many. when i was hired so was told as long as I did a good jobI would have job. Well that went out the door when my team was cut. Additionally my retirement went as well about 14 years into my 34 years when they just decided to do away with it for people. some got the old plan but I was 13 months from it -even after the age discrimination law suit the people won I was still just months too short from. Lay offs weren’t if they were when. If I had my promised retirement I would be retired now. However many companies do the same there’s no loyalty anymore but the CEOs are making millions and those keeping the shop afloat just pray they are treated with respect -one of ibm’s basic beliefs - and keep their job! was ibm a good company -yes but in the end after all the years of doing right by them - they really did wrong by me.
How many were contractors? IBM doesn't have to report contractors cause they aren't IBM employees
supposedly cuts happening throughout Canada Consulting and only one single person came here to provide details
That is because Canada is a totalitarian communist country.
This is not related to the prior layoffs in China
Even worse. There are supposedly cuts happening throughout Canada Consulting and only one single person came here to provide details. We need people sharing this information to understand what's happening in the company. At least in the past people who were laid off would share what they've learned here for the benefit of everyone else.
This is horse hockey.
The 2000 folks in China were cut off from IBM email/tools in Sept 2024 and told to start finding other jobs. For those of IBM outside of China lost all support they got from China.
They might have just closed the books, but they didn't recently lay off 2000 folks. That process started last year.
