Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

How are you faring with your job search?

I’m a long-term employee, but the increasing frequency of layoffs has made me start scouting the market now and then. Not because I want to change jobs, but because I want to stay informed about what’s out there. I haven’t seen the market this contracted in years. This is the first time I’ve received a single offer in months, and it wasn’t even worth considering. The state of affairs makes me a bit panicky about the possibility of layoffs. Is the job market really that bad, or am I just seeing it through my own experience?

It’s been bad for a while and with the current administration it’s not going to get better. The chaos in the white house will only continue the challenges for companies to decide whether or not to hire. I spent 08/23 to 05/24 looking for a new role, accepted the first one I could get. Left Fidelity though.

Laid off from tech at Fidelity in 2024. I ended up having an interview again with the same BU I was laid off from the following summer, but even after I performed very well, the position was moved to a different manager who decided they needed someone higher in seniority for the role than me.

Took me 7 months to find a contract job. I’m just grateful the new people I’m with would like to convert me into full time. That being said, it’s tough because it’s not a humane experience anymore. It’s not humane because, well, we have computers automating everything. Just try to find jobs in person and build relationships with people and you’ll be ok in due time. Good luck.

It’s bad, same thing happened to me. I’ve been applying everywhere I considered a good place to work at. And no job offers. 2-3 months of job searching.
