Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

DEI and Ageism

It’s hilarious the comments praising getting rid of DEI. Meanwhile, ageism is causing AT&T to get rid of older workers. Worried about the wrong thing. You want diversity in your workplace because it ensures you’ll be treated fairly as an older employee. Just like voting for trump and now his voters are being laid off en mass. FAFO. Your bigotry won’t save you

Exactly! I hear all private info since there is no private in RTO. This company was never in support of diversity. A few women her and there, but mainly the same make up.

"Dei is sadly a lot more than what a lot if shallow thinkers realize"

DEI is much more dangerous to society than the beneficiaries would have you believe. DEI and its supporters are a cancer.

This is by far the d-mbest post of the month so far. Yeah, I think merit should dictate promotions, not skin color.

Let’s keep it real DEI doesn’t mean diversity it just means black. I’ve seen groups with top down all black where is the diversity in that, that’s not a problem apparently.

Guess noone minds loosing handicap parking, wheel chair accessibility etc. If a male and a female apply for the same job with the same experience a male will probably be chosen. Dei is sadly a lot more than what a lot if shallow thinkers realize.

DEI was always about pitting black against white and buying votes. Ageism had nothing to do with it.

I dont agree with dei but Dont blame dei. no one is getting promoted bozo because of downsizing, debt, and artificial intelligence taking your jobs. Oh yeah and 90 percent of all managments are taken by whites. If you seek management you will have to seek elsewhere..

that WILLLLL AFFECT you if you are over 40 with the DEI being removed.

As opposed to the last two years when it has been in effect, and layoffs/following the job disproportionately affected people over 40, 45, 50?

" ...forgetting what the “E” in DEI STOOD FOR! ! That is Equity, ie AGE!!! So please educate yourselves … that WILLLLL AFFECT you if you are over 40 with the DEI being removed."

^^^ This is the type of dimwit we are still dealing with here.

Equity is not "age". Equity is synonymous (that means the same) with "fairness".

Again, age (over 40) is a protected class of worker. Not the same thing.

When DEI was running amuck the last few years, did you see a lot of "old " people being promoted? By your logic, DEI should have been a positive thing for the older worker. It was not. It benefited primarily POC and LGBTQ.

The reality is that nothing much is going to change here. They will continue to skew the layoffs so it cannot be easily claimed that they are targeting primarily older workers, even though many of us heard the CEO himself state there were too many of them.

DEI initiatives and federally protected classes of employment aren't the same thing.

DEI was a fad that is clearly starting to lose favor everywhere.

It is Federal Law that employees are protected from employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, s-x (including pregnancy, s-xual orientation, or gender identity), national origin, age (40 or older), disability and genetic information (including family medical history).

I honestly don't think that the OP knows what he's talking about.

There are still laws about ages of s-xism etc it's part of the EEOC that has not gone away. What scary is to think that I work with some of the people who ride on this board and I never realized what id--ts they are

"You want diversity in your workplace because it ensures you’ll be treated fairly as an older employee."

Not when the CEO specifically identifies your age group to get rid of like he did in June 2023.
