We’ll just saying but I know some developers at a major online retailer who laugh at how mediocre our Linux talent has become.

I don't understand the snark in this post and responses. IBM has participated in Linux since the 90s.

IBM's customers runs Linux on its Z machines (along with z/OS z/VM and z/TPF ) and Power machines (along with AIX and IBM i). Of course this entails kernel and other work as they aren't Intel i86 or some variant of ARM.

And who makes comments about how people dress at work?

For Linux development, go to the cloud companies. They have the right people and are taking advantage of the chaos here.
Besides we have stupid people who are basically in position because they are white (old school DEI).

Development at IBM for Linux kernel is mostly done, IBM Power machines, Developers use MacBooks or Thinkpads to check email and access the remote development machines. Everyone doing Operating System work use laptops as communication tools.

When reading the article, I noticed that the Senior SW Engineer was not named. Is the lady in the picture the one who made "her contribution" to the story? Am I to believe that IBM's Linux developers sit around in cushy lounge chairs, with yellow fingernails and MacBooks on their laps?

Don't get me wrong...stranger sights have appeared in the IT industry, but at IBM? It would seem that the company that once rolled its own stuff now uses laptops from someone else and works on someone else's operating system.

How time changes...
