Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

As if the tech market wasn't already bad enough

The direction the economy is heading and the realistic possibility of a recession will only make the already tight tech job market even worse. Yes, I’ve been updating my skills and have been diligent in looking for other opportunities, but when sh-t hits the fan, none of it will matter. These layoffs have mostly been by the numbers, and the next wave will likely be worse.

You don't have a choice. If you don't join the tech, the tech will join YOU.

You will be assimilated!!

Life is horrible in tech jobs even if you like tech.

Now even the money equation is already looking bad, certainly in future its going to be bad. Many grads are not able to even get a job.

Few lucky ones who were in right place at the right time made enough to retire early. For rest of tech workers its just mental labor.

Now tech is taking over people lives by manipulating teen brain and it has become somewhat dangerous to society. With AI it may turn out to be horrible to people.

No new people should join tech anymore. There are far better things/jobs life has to offer.

The older I get, the more people I see leaving tech after 20 or so years; the more I realize I don’t know anyone who is content or happy having sat at a desk for 8 hours a day. Even if it’s truly a passion, it’s definitely not a healthy lifestyle at all. The human body and mind were destined for something so much greater. So grateful to have stepped away. Once you can step away, you truly see what you’ve been missing and where your passion may be.

Am I sensing it right?
What is the reading of current job market situation from your perspective?

You are sensing it right. Most folks got into tech because they were told how rich the job market is, how good the pay is, blah, blah, blah. In fact, most tech work is now commoditized. Everyone and their grandmothers have tech skills these days and tech is a bad place to be since 99% of workers can't differentiate themselves and don't warrant high salaries.

Re: opportunities that still exist out there
Biotech, genetic research and related ops, traditional advanced engineering disciplines like engineering physics all look good. Finance looks good as do private equity and other late stage capitalism and/or investment ops. Lots of areas out there where you should consider refocusing your energies.

I am seeing slow layoff's across companies. Many of my friends in Bay Area are silently getting laid off. I am feeling nervous!!!

Oracle is a Multi National Organization that values all of its employees. Phrases like 'you shouldn't be here would only apply to extra terrestrials!

It's funny. I have come across a few of you folks in my travels. Me, Me, Me. If you didn't know, the U in USA stands for united. If you want me-me-me, maybe move to an island. Maybe also watch the news UK, Japan, Argentina...all working on deals with us. Kier Starmer actually applauded Trump; we want to stop globalization in the way countries are relying so heavily on other countries (a good thing). It would be a great thing to have countries be sustaining their own people. Globalization can still be good for exchanging ideas. And....fun fact....you can change where your pre-tax $ goes any time you want. It may take 1-2 weeks for recordkeeping/paychecks, but no one said you had to go all stocks. You could easily have done stable value fund this year if you were worried. Ahhhhhh. I love the fact I worked at a tech company after I already had my investment education. It allowed me to not have to work for terrible managers doing terrible work that no one cares about. hahahahahahhahahaha. so much of Oracle work forgotten in 30 days.

Sorry to tell you this, but not one person, ok, maybe one soft liberal crybaby, has complained about trump. All that stuff you see on TV, that's .000000000001% and no one cares about them whining. how about this....how much safer are you now that ICE is picking up thousands of violent illegals? I bet you're so safe whining from your home somewhere nice. how about your thank him for cleaning up the Biden mess and making the country 10x safter in under 100 days. yeah, you wont and we know why.

Hackett noted that investor sentiment has reached extreme levels, which often serves as a contrarian signal. Historically, when sentiment has been this stretched, the S&P 500 has posted strong gains over the following six and 12 months, he said.

“All in all, investors should stay patient for now,” Hackett concluded.

Did you say the same when Biden’s inflation knocked 25% off market highs from 2020 to 2023? If you didn’t, I don’t want to hear your “once in a liftetime” cr-p! Put it in a savings account then! You or me getting rich are not serious problems!!!!!

"For you folks that expect the stock market to be up every day, you obviously have no idea about investing."

Undoubtably your experience surpasses us mere mortals, however, these fluctuations are not 'just another day at the office'. We are seeing once in a lifetime fluctuations brought on by tariffs and trade wars not seen since the Great Depression!

I'm glad that you made money in the past. So have many of us here, but now we are all losing it now!

Good luck, my friend, but yesterday's answers will not solve todays issues.

For you folks that expect the stock market to be up every day, you obviously have no idea about investing. I am not picking sides here. I have been investing in stocks since I was 18. I am 47. I wish I could sit here and say that politics/tariffs really do the damage you think, but they don't. Inflation does. Govt printing more money does. I am sorry, but you're up-down-down-down-up I am going to cry mentality will not help anything. The market has been around a long time. Google it. Funds like QQQ FBGRX many other great funds...they hold 250-500 of the best companies for a reason. Those companies aren't just randomly popping on there. They are basically qualified for a certain # of metrics. If your tech or data junkies, you should know this. Now, there are things called corrections. They happen! there are things called recessions. they happen. But day-to-day, stocks are performing off products/prices/balance sheets. Metrics people! Data! The fear mongering, emotional trading...that's for children. Fear mongering at all and this "oh woe is me" self pity and doom and gloom about the US.....that's just pathetic. The market is fine. It's a long journey. The market isn't trying to make your rich in one year. What fund would that be? You want to set it and forget it? Easily just dump 20% of your bi-weekly pay into a blue chip fund like QQQ or FBGRX and call me in 10 years. You'll be happy. I started at 30 at zero. At 42 I made a million. All off stocks like Apple, Amazon, Progressive, Google. It's not rocket science. Constant whining about who is president and tariffs (which have been part of trade since day one)....well, that's just a drain on you and your families. Have some pride. Stop crying, just keep investing, paying bills and you'll be fine.

Eh, it is down today, though still up nicely. But there is tons of blue sky for this company, and a Trump EO helped ignite it.

Stock trader…I wish we could talk. Happy for you! I’ve never been good at calls but you can really crush it with them. It’s funny. I laugh now at so many that didn’t treat me well during my time at oracle. I was actively trading and made enough to retire by 42. Here those dopes thought I was really struggling to get by and have a cr-p about some piece of cr-ap project mgmt software no one cared about. Hahahahahhaahhahahahaha. I make more money now in a few mos than I did in a year at cr-ap O.

I came back to this thread to see if any of you softees learned how to Google stock market go up, stock market go down…part of life. Did you love it today when it went up 2%? It actually makes me laugh. You spend countless hours doing such meaningless work and while I was at oracle I made a cool million focusing on good companies making good products. It has zero to do with politics. If it did, the market would’ve been a roller coaster every 4 years and it’s not. Maybe check 1-3-5-10 year performance. Stop being a robot and learn to think for yourself. Today was a good day for gains. I’m still not where I was pre Biden. Let that sink in. That’s how bad Biden let us fall.

not political....market doing great today. market usually doesn't stay on a trend due to politics. good or bad, it just doesn't drive the market. products/price/performance/financials drive the market. been that way for 100 years.

NYT reported that investors are pulling their money out of the US stock market in recent weeks and investing overseas. The S&P 500 had outpaced foreign stock markets for years, but it has fallen 6% just since Trump took office while the DAX index in Germany is up 10%, Europe’s STOXX 600 is up 4%, the Hang Seng in Hong Kong is up 20%, and Mexico’s IPC is up 5% over that span.

Reality!
