Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Is dyed hair unprofessional?

What do you think? Looking to be least-fireable, not necessarily chasing a promotion right now. I get the sense many folks on here are more tenured.
I show up clean, respectful, proper, good performance. Just not sure how much anyone really cares about it. Get the sense younger colleagues don't care.

My manager is very corporate-y so makes me consider how it might be perceived in the culture as a whole.

It all depends on how one “carries themselves”. If you are confident, professional and speak intelligently, then it’s non issue for me how you look.

As someone mentioned, tech groups are more acceptable. I recall a tech leader with sleeves who was assigned a public facing role during Covid and he almost always kept his arms covered during public meetings and events.

For full disclosure, I am a boomer who has a daughter who sometimes dyes her hair, but has not for awhile because of how she was perceived.

Life’s too short, do what makes you feel good as well as confident/strong. It’s a dog eat dog world.

Manager here, with bright, unnatural, vivid hair.
Complete non issue. :)

The don man doesn’t like it, so it’s technically unprofessional.

No, and neither are tattoos here. Maybe tons of facial piercings?

I have hair dyed an unnatural color (not an extreme vivid but softer) and so do others n my department. It's fine.

I'm fine with dyed hair. It's the people who refuse to use deodorant that I object to.

If you’re talking about unnatural hair, than yes it’s unprofessional. Fidelity and corporate America are going away from DEI and bring your “true self to work”.

Corporations just said what they needed to say, to get the help to work.

Does not help at all if you are talking pink or purple. Same with nose rings. If in tech a little more acceptable but any of these certainly won’t help you advance. It can still happen but you are making it harder.

If you're referring to colors that a person would not naturally have, then yes, it could be a hindrance. That's not to say that after people get to know you and what you're capable of they wouldn't see beyond that. But, human nature does cause most to make a get a first impression based on outwards appearances.
