Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I always knew in the back of mind

That I should have not joined ford. I always knew. When that offer letter came. I knew I shouldn’t have accepted it. I had already seen the signs at that point. I still accepted it. Because I’m a gremlin.

Choose one: mental health or good money

Good money - stay at Ford

We are all gremlins. You are a gremlin for not being the target audience as you were evidently not hired in the past 10 years and still commenting...

@OP Speak for yourself, because working at Ford solved a few issues in my life, and I am grateful for the opportunity. I will concede though, the company is worse now than it was years ago. The Ford family are inepts, hiring CEOs d-mber and more ignorant than the Ford family.

Mark Fields was right about the lack of profitability in BEVs, and for being right he was ousted, like so many of my coworkers. So now the employees that know stuff keep their mouth shut, leaving the ignorant yapping and boasting about "solutions" that don't work. That's why we have recalls on previous recalls.

I will also agree that the company is going broke. Not today, or tomorrow, but it is heading to an slow death, like Sears. Just due to the pride and ego of Bill Ford, who refuses to leave the company in better hands.

Personally, I am betting on retiring, or getting closer to retirement at FMC, before its demise. I have a decent salary, which would be hard to find in another company at my age. I also know the older stuff, so I am still needed here. I can probably survive a couple of rouns of layoffs more. Yes, I let some of my skills fade away for money and comfort, and I am fine with it. Unless I can translate my skills into hard money, skills are not that great. And if needed, money and dedication can always give me the training to forge new skills. Am I a gremlin then?

A long time Ford Supervisor told me a few things about Fords...

They don't want to make a little money they want to make a lot.. Greed high up was unbelievable.

You trade your time for money and never forget that.

It's like a train...you alone can't speed it up or slow it down so enjoy the ride.

I don't miss the place but it was just part of my life for 33 yrs. So sad it is such a mess.

It happens, just learn what you can and make a plan to move to greener pastures.

Just work diligently to find yourself a better job. Don’t stay there.

Go find a new job while you are still employed. Don’t continue to work at a place you do not like and don’t be dedicated to a company that does not appreciate you. Good luck.
