Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

As the axe falls

Many of us are going to be let go this next round including people who care deeply, work hard, and need their job to get by. I am one of these, I love this business and the people in it, and I will more than likely be let go.
All I can suggest is keep your chin up. I am angry things were allowed to get to this state but it is what it is. If you or I are one of the ones to be let go, know that it doesn’t define who we are and isn’t a reflection of our worth.
The nastiness around legacy companies, departments, and individuals is waste of time. It certainly hasn’t helped and isn’t going to help anything. These are serious and hard times and people are going to be severely affected.
Be kind to each other, support each other, and show up with a level of integrity your parents would be proud of.
Hang in there.

Speaking of the toxic incompetence in Lloyd thermal, now they’ve just transferred one of the problems. Nothing like spreading the cancer! Maybe it’s about time for the axe to fall!

Everyone posting on here must be working really hard. Why waste your time. Just focus on what you can control. We live in a world of uncertainty. Get used to it.

Funny how Lloyd thermal isn’t mentioned a lot. Gotta be one of the biggest toxic dumpster fires in the company currently. The turnover and culture is as bad as it’s ever been. You need to look no further than to the incompetent toxic sr coordinators and superintendents. What a disaster.

Love these manufactured gossip stories. Keep it up folks, who is making the popcorn?

Sounds like the biggest epiphany to come out of the Kananaskis boondoggle was that our biggest issue is working one day per week from home! The issue isn’t John, or Kam or the incompetent Husky leadership! The issue is employees having the flexibility and trust to work one day per week from home. You know, the one day per week you don’t have to deal with constant cubicle drop-ins, or being distracted by constant chatter and your neighbours blabbing on Teams calls. The one day that is by far your most productive day of the week! THAT is the issue! They’ll announce 5 days per week and our stock price will rise like the great zeppelins of the early 1900’s. What a joke this senior executive team is!

@f6+1jpr7a9gx Sorry what are you trying to say? You’ve noticed a bunch of manager positions being filled by white people? Really? Which ones? Last time I checked, our massively overinflated HR team was all about the DEI hires…or being directed to hire legacy Husky people for Managers positions and ex-Talisman Repsol people for all other positions, regardless of Qualifications.

Quit making up rumors. If there was “2000-2300” person layoff happening it would be publicly announced, and not being speculated on whiny gossip boards. Get back to work.

I’m certainly noticing a lot of vacant manager positions being filled without advertised openings by young white people.

Some who have repeatedly been on mat leave. I fail to understand how color defines experience and ability

Downstream will take a heavy "haircut" in staff. If they aren't already in talks to sell it they will have to be pretty soon. The "haircut" will make it more attractive to a potential buyer. So expect a mid to late April timeframe, just before AGM. All the "NI" rated staff will most likely go at the same time.

So what work force adjustments are being planned in the near term? What are the repercussions if downstream performance actually gets worse?

How about you @dr+1jpr7a9gx fall on your own sword? Yeah I didn’t think so !!

Maybe Cenovus will take a lead from Husky in 2019 when predominately middle-managers were let go to flatten the organization.

As a manager with a whole team of people that will be impacted, I feel terrible. Please don’t start naming names and departments on this or any forum. Let us tell them personally. It’s not performance based unfortunately. It is the state of our business. We’ve all been there.

As per the big investors comments - the only reason we're here is Oilsands.....take it from there.

They have these sessions annually like all companies do. And don’t we have to have a first round before a post like this should be stated? Did you folks take drama in school?

As much as this original comment was posted in good faith, the nature of the employees at Cenovus is very competitive and absolutely reckless when it comes to another person's career. Don't ever think that anyone truly cares about you here. Absolutely everyone is playing a game and most of you don't know when you are being played. I hope they keep some of the people who are actually working and get rid of the fast talkers.

Sounds like a few targeted rounds of downsizing are coming. First round March/April individual contributors and then April and beyond - mid level and sr managers. Contractors, HR, Supply Chain, Logistics, Legal, Finance, Ops. “Lift and Shift” consolidate work and streamline assets.

Anyone who has been with Cenovus for some time knows what comes after the special Kananaskis leadership summit. Every time.

Good luck everyone.

Well at least something came out of the strategy session. We have to change things up what can we do? Let’s lay off the people doing the actual work. But let’s keep the over 180 upper mgmt because hey, they’re what really makes this company work. In truth we’ve gotten quite over staffed and my suggestion is they start with any and all DEI staff then move into HR.
