Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Goalposts are continuously changing

Today, they justify firing without severance with faulty reports. Tomorrow, they’ll justify it with a low number of GitHub commits. It’s ridiculous that people blame this big brother type tracking on people not complying with RTO, when it’s really the c suite trying to make employee life miserable enough for people to quit. They’re firing people who have been with this company for 20+ years, who are decent people and get their work done over faulty reports and sh---y metrics. How are more people not angry at this?

You may be compliant in their eyes today, but will you be tomorrow when the goal posts change and tracking is even more suffocating?

“Too many people with pension wanting to get a few more years that will accept anything. Thats how they get away with it.”

Too many people with unmarketable skills and no other options needing to get a few more years that will accept anything. Thats how they get away with it.

T relying on people to be spineless as is the case with the majority. I won’t disclose if I am an attorney, but I will provide common sense guidance as I have done in the past. T can measure whatever they want but what they cannot do is take those measurements and selectively target the employee demographic of their choice. If you are terminated due to low github commits, demand for them to disclose the full list of employees on the list. Demand to see the document or policy stating what the minimum number of acceptable commits are. Demand that they disclose the age and race of the employees with low commits and where they ranked on the list overall. Document their refusal to disclose the information that you asked for in writing. You should be proactively documenting everything you can in the unfortunate expectation that T may violate your civil rights, federal or state employment laws. Forward everything to you home email address, creating an electronic, time stamped, archive for your attorney.

100% of fired employees due to RTO non-compliance were egregious offenders and not due to inaccurate reporting.

Too many people with pension wanting to get a few more years that will accept anything. Thats how they get away with it. Ever wonder why you see very few younger people or the ones you see look straight out of college? Once they get a bit of experience on the resume they leave. I’m in my 40s and the youngest on the team. Been interviewing external, just no offers just yet. Soon though.

Majority are from Indian origin (myself included) we might be at the top but we are very afraid and we don’t have enough in ourselves to stand for ourselves, you guys can push us as much as you can and we will not retaliate or even complain. We will adhere to everything.
