Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T customers are fed up with what they perceive as shady sales practices by authorized resellers

Use contractors they said. It will be cheaper they said.

Zero accountability for those making these decisions.

“If you’ve ever walked into a wireless carrier’s store expecting clarity and walked out with buyer’s remorse, you’re not alone. A recent Reddit thread in the r/ATT community has sparked a heated discussion around AT&T’s authorized dealers — and the allegations are serious. Customers claim these third-party retailers are misleading, upselling, and even committing outright fraud, leading to canceled orders, unexpected charges, and long-term frustrations.

The problem with authorized dealers
Unlike corporate-owned stores, authorized retailers operate independently but are licensed to sell on behalf of major carriers. This gives them flexibility in operations — and, critics say, loopholes to prioritize commissions over customer care. The original Reddit post accused AT&T’s authorized dealers of routinely misleading customers, adding services or accessories without consent, and complicating what should be a straightforward buying experience.“

As a customer I would be more concerned about the shady practices of employees…. They’ll do anything to meet their numbers…

at one point today in our store, we had 4 different customers all who had been scammed by D2D. The best was the sales tax collected for the phones. This pair of D2D goes around and takes cash for the sales tax, and the c/c for auto pay - only they also use the c/c for the sales tax and pocket the cash. And yes, this pair preys on the older customers we have found. That and the 4 lines along with internet for $125 is the magical number they use to close sales.

The COR locations are just as bad. I've been out right lied to and scammed there. I only order on-line now.

Unfortunately this is no longer just an AR issue. It has become common practice in COR stores as well. Fraud is rampant no matter what department or area of T. It use to be you could do things legitimately and make Summit or Diamond Club, that is a thing of the past.

COR is the originator of fraud. AR is expected to meet and exceed their fraudulent numbers. VPs, GMs, DOS and ARSMs oversee both COR and AR. So it's not one specific channel. If you own an AR, you're promised more doors if you attain numbers which match COR. COR employees don't get paid unless they hit their metrics like Next UP, protection and gross adds. It's a non growth industry. Adding these are the only way of showing growth to the share holders. The industry has come to the point where it attracts the lowest forms of humanity. But usually these people don't have any other options for employment. So it's the higher ups pushing them. COR employees should not come off as righteous, you're just as bad. If you think otherwise, you're embarrassing yourself.

all as we do in cor is clean up D2D and Bj's, costco, sams. The constant saying, go into a store and they will fix it all for you. There are no sales anymore, only clean up. The business model the company has built has not gained any real customers. You can show me the numbers but the math is not there when people are leaving in droves due to the way they are being treated. Failure. This is total failure and it's all due to upper management and things like HTP. Listen guys, this is not working and you are creating a cannibalistic culture in the sales divisions. And I don't care about the whole Ar vs COR thing. I get it, AR is more profitable and that is the future. This is not Unicef - then stick a fork in COR and leave everything to AR and cust care and see how the company is ran. But having D2D walk around and scam customers - and then using COR to " fix" their " mistakes" - ya it ain't working and the one who gets the short end of the stick is the customer.

No different when what happens everywhere else. You have dummy AVP’s and VP’s all over the place forcing their Directors to hire authorized 3rd party contractors to build software. You don’t think there is corruption and fraud going on? We get billed for work but somehow projects continue for years. Fraud is a way of life in this universe.
