Publicly get rid of toxic managers and the culture problem will solve itself

I’m so sick of managers saying “that’s not MY job, that’s YOURS”. When it’s not my job, I just go to HR to report my manager has been notified

The thing I have noticed regarding this is depending on your role but many client facing/ phone roles is that the employees have a monthly performance meeting with their leader in which the employee is expected to lead the meeting. It seems backward, if I'm going to judge and work on my own performance then what do I need a leader for? No, I've done the work and my numbers tell the story- you're the leader so you lead the meeting and tell ME what you want done or expect. Employees waste a lot of productive time to come up with a bunch b.s. for their monthly meeting.

When your manager asks you to do something you feel is their job, you go to HR? How is that working out for you so far? I’m guessing they’re not going to your manager on your behalf and saying, “please do your job and only ask your employee to do their job.” More likely they are telling you to do what you should have done in the first place, which is to speak with your manager about your capacity and what you can deprioritize if they want you to take on extra responsibilities. And also that you should probably consider taking on stretch assignments if you want to get ahead.

For those playing at home, do not go to HR to complain your boss is asking you to do things not in your job description.

OP here, speaking of when it’s actually their job. I’m not afraid to work, but there is a chain of command for a reason.
