Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

OP&OO

Any thoughts on OP&OO? We are 8 months in the new structure and this was celebrated on the all hands call this week. Are we safe? Are too big? Are cuts and reorgs all done for this area? What’s your thoughts on 2023…at least we feel safe for now through the end of the year, thank God.

Not enough cuts in OP&OO this year. 2022 was phase I, expect 30% reduction in 2023

No one is safe at Verizon, no one.

We spend so much time fixing failed automation those jobs will be hiring back within a year.

Some functions are forbidden to be outsourced by either government (the customer in many cases) or our own legal dept.

The day they let someone outside the Lower 48 have access to long distance and local switches, national security is in for a world of hurt.

If you're part of an organization that no one even knows what the letters stand for, you aren't safe.

There is a HUGE push for automation. Just like last time when they get it working even 50%, they'll cut people loose. Look out over the next month.

There is no such thing as feeling safe and 8 months is a long time when much has happened in those 8 months. GNT also had a restructure earlier this year and yet we had cuts in Network, TPD, and GTS. GTS was moved under the new org just recently created. Reshuffling is not a new concept, it is something that constantly happens because that is all they know, reshuffle, RIFs, and hiring outside agencies to tell them how to run the business because they cannot figure it out.

Note that this last RIF was not about performance but solely on elimination of their work. Who knows what their next great idea is but after spending so much money on products, they are ki----g many of them. So always make sure your resume is ready.
