Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Advice I am being moved to a hot project maybe?

I have been asked forced to help out and move to a supposedly hot project. The project rhymes with noxima. I have heard bad things about proxima and several engineers that left the proxima group told me it was horrible. I don't think I can say no and just want know how bad it is. I feel as if I am being setup to fail with this move. I was told would have to work in the lab with toxic DCPD as a CAD. I did not go to school for years to work in the lab again. I was leading a group in polyethylene research and was not allowed to work in the labs. I am dreading this move and feel it could be my career ender.

ProxximaTM polyolefin thermosets enable an exceptional balance of strength and toughness, resulting in improved fatigue performance. Better still, they’re 7-10% lighter than their epoxy and polyurethane alternates, with great resistance to harsh chemicals and hot, wet environments.

Proxxima is supposed to be part of ExxonMobil’s push into newer, more sustainable materials, and on paper it sounds like a step forward. But as with a lot of big projects, the reality can be very different depending on who you ask. Some folks have had a tough time in that group, so if you are thinking about joining, it might be worth talking to people who have actually been on the team. Getting the real story from the inside can help you see what it is really like.

There are no more hot projects, we spent millions on projects in Annandale that never had a prayer of being commercially viable.

I think proxima is a high stress project. I always see the workers panicking and running around. It does not look like it is run well. I always smell something very pungent around the labs which I assume is the resin. They have had a lot of turnover with people leaving and new ones replacing them. It does not look good to me. I stay away from the proxima labs because of the smells.
