Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Just learned a friend received an offer from T

I told him plainly: don't take it. Just don't. Spare yourself the stress and look elsewhere. This is not a situation you want to walk into.
I don't know if he's going to listen to me, but I did my part. Now if he walks into this mess, he'll only have himself to blame.

Remind the applicant that they will have an assigned location 5 days a week, but NO assigned desk, no ability to reserve one, no working and/or ergonomically equipment, no desk personalization and will be lucky if they have a coffee machine.
So basically, a drop in stranger to their assigned building every single day.

Also remind them of “core hours” and the ridiculous prison-esque tracking being done.

“Letting people start WFH was a huge mistake because now they feel entitled like a food stamp.”

Says the miserable old hag with family and friends that hate her, and uses RTO as a social equalizer.

I'm sorry, but if I got an offer to leave this asylum, I would take it in a NY minute! This company has definitely lost its way! They're contracting technicians to do jobs they're not trained on, the company that is hiring the T technicians has to train the techs to do the work that they don't want to do. It's not even communications or IT related! This company is doing what it can to make a buck!

Good work, good pay, we make communication go. What's not to like? Maybe a few bitter old guys who's hanging on as long as they can.

“ Union jobs are solid”

To this point it’s a true statement. I wonder how the technology is impacting workloads and how they are changing or being addressed. Seen quite a few groups who are basically Prem techs with 2-3 core techs left and on some of those the core techs have to pick up Prem work to finish their day. Seeing small cuts that never make our news. 2-3 people in a group are surplused, take severance and leave quietly.

Why do ppl hate the job? Sure its not. 350k+ TC like some tech company but im not complaining with a 200k TC given the workload

What's the mess? If he has no service with the company, there is no investment of time yet. Why not take the job and check it out? If it isn't working out, check out some other job.

Long time Employee here. As sh---y as we all regard AT&T as employees, you have to remember that it’s completely different for newcomers. There is a huge difference in the barbaric, filthy, heartless, corporate entity that is AT&T, as it takes away from long time, dedicated, loyal employees. (vacation time stolen, WFH flexibility stolen, adding 5x8 RTO, hiring and promotions with possible DEI goals, and random relocations to force people to give up their jobs. In contrast, a new employee is not going to be subject to any of that except maybe DEI bias. A new employee wont have to relocate, worry about severance or pension, couldn’t care less about sitting in a cafe style sagging couch. They also already know going in that they are 3x8 or 5x8. For them, a 2 year paycheck is good and there is no way they are busting their a-s with overtime. I say, welcome the little short timer and let them have a laugh at these worthless goons running the company into the ground. Good experience and nothing but up from here when they finally leave.

Perhaps you ought to mention your friend is jobless, homeless, and hungry. I think he should take the job.
