So, what’s the verdict?

No RIFs before the end of the month?

Like last year, expect the RIFs to come after FY end-beginning of May. Best of luck to you all. Don’t forget that MDT is only a company and a means to an end. The anecdotal feedback that I can provide: every former MDT colleague that I speak with is much happier after leaving the company, something that I have repeatedly seen written in this forum.

Who are the "global operations" teams I've heard nothing about a reorg in MDT

Senior leadership soiled themselves listening to Boston Scientific’s earning and forward looking forecast. Let’s see what the excuses are on May 21.

The tariff-threat and turmoil gives the "leaders" and opportunity shake things up again and shift the blame.

So sorry for the hard-working folks that continue to suffer under Martha's regime.

Some management in the EMEA group have been given notification of termination. Irish operations are being scaled back. Production in the Galway plant is being ramped up with 3 shifts being announced for the launch of their new product. The end goal is to build up buffer stock for the transfer of operations out of Ireland.

I just heard from a source the Irish plants are to announce redundancies this week. Some upper management have already been notified of termination.

You can count on 'truth of the moment' as it evolves. Meanwhile your papers are being prepared and decisions made for your fate. Don't expect management to tell you.

I haven't heard of anything. However, there are job postings for our site in India. I guess that's where our jobs are at.

Regardless of the stock market. We need RIFs just to weed out useless coasters

Where did you hear that RTO will be 5 days?

When the 5 days/week in the office directive comes out next month, the RIF will take care of itself. That's what they are betting on.

Last year it was May 7th. I still think it'll be that week again this year. 2024 PTO off the books so they don't have to pay that out and soon enough into new FY so the VPs can re-allocate the $$$ to promote the directs. Just watch all the MDT promotions on LinkedIn after the RIFs happen.

Last voluntary RIF I know a guy in operations who raised his hand to go.

He was told his role was critical to the business and they were not going to accept his offer.

Of course, when raises/promotions rolled along they told him it wasn’t in the budget.

He left the company for a new opportunity shortly after.

MIP will be protected at all cost, that’s why they consider RIFs.

If you think your MIP is a significant chunk of your compensation, wait until you hear about higher up the food chain.

RIF’s serve the purpose of making those numbers to get executives their compensation.

I expect RIF to be slowly rolled out and our MIP be severely reduced. Leadership will blame it on the tariffs.

Prior years we’ve seen VRIF (voluntary reduction in force) and VERP (voluntary early retirement program) rolled out prior to the blood letting.

Problem with VERP is that if you constantly do them, people ‘abuse’ the program and wait to retire until incentivized. I.e. if I knew every 2 years they would pay out a severance to get me retire, why the he-l would I retire unless I got that package offered to me?

The problem with VRIFs is that it rarely captures the people you’d like to let go, and/or you get in a sticky situation where people volunteer and management declines their offer to be RIF’d. Typically you offer to be RIF’d because you’re halfway out the door anyways or have a new gig lined up.

Regardless, since we’re not seeing any of these sorts of programs floated this year, I tend to think we won’t see any significant haircuts.
