Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

Morale will never get better

Employees that survive these frequent layoffs have z e r o loyalty to the company.
Make it look like you are working hard, but under the covers it's a who give a sh
attitude. There is nothing to be proud of. Morale will never get better because it can't get better when every few months you hear about layoffs going on somewhere in the company.
Believe it or not, most of us care what happens to any employee anywhere in the world. We know they have families relying on an income that just vaporized and those poor souls got shafted when it comes to respectable severance pay.
To the poster in another thread that said 'deal with it, it's only 5% of the company', you clearly have no soul, no compassion and no empathy for your fellow human beings. It feels like you just want the complaining to stop so maybe your stock options have a chance at being worth something. My words for you are 'su-k it'!

The OP is dead-on. If your valued coworkers are being let go every few months (6 layoffs in 2 years), how can morale not be in the toilet. It's a shame, really, as so much institutional knowledge is unceremoniously shown the door.

Capitalism and Publicly Traded companies have no soul. It’s all about the stock price going up or about executives building up their resume so they can find a new job quickly when their company is acquired or needs to seek bankruptcy protection. The irony is that they have golden parachutes while we rely on unemployment and need to pay cobra. Capitalism is still the best model, but this is the ugly side of it.

Also everything is a gamble. Fake it till you make it and hope it pans out. That’s what’s happening with acquisitions and AI. Executives want quick wins to tout on each quarterly earnings meeting, but no one wants to spend money (or time) on a long term vision. If OpenText were smart, they would look back at want make the company a successful startup 35 years ago and focus on that vs trying to be something they aren’t. Not all companies can be AI tech giants, so look at what worked in the past and expand on that.

While I wouldn't have said it quite like that (I'd have used lots of profanity). Can't disagree with the assessment or the sentiment.
