Ranking going from CL 27 to 28 - what to expect?

What to expect as you move to CL 28 from CL 27 in terms of ranking for an individual contributor? Cl 28 would be a different rank group with many managers, that would be my guess. Could you still maintain your ranking?

You're just fodder for managers and HiPos. Enjoy your paycheck and forget about any more meaningful career upside

Expect a quintile drop when you go up into a more competitive rank group. Especially those who do not have global experience and are not managers

Hello XOM crushed souls.

How's PIP season going?

How does it feel to, once again, being gaslighted with BS about your performance.

Accept it, your pain is partially self inflicted, your are scared of leaving this dumpster and stick around for as long as you can, hoping your careless supervisor to pick someone else, and looking forward to the day your turn 52, so at least you are PIP safe.

Mediocre companies attract mediocre individuals.

Enjoy

Reality - if you were a.HiPo you wouldn't be asking this. Therefore, you are now in the big leagues and as such have become fodder for the senior manager rankings. The way it was done in the good old days they would start winding you down into the bottom third where you'd bottom out til retirement. These days things are sc--wy and they may slam you into a PIP situation. Either way, keep doing your job, plan your retirement and forget about it.

CL28 is cut throat. Peers and supervisors will manipulate so your contributions will not see the light of day. If you are late career, you are just fodder for NI to make room for the up and coming.

Trust no one.

Depends on your potential, not what you have accomplished. EM has a skewed definition of meritocracy

Many CL 28 reporting to CL 26 supervisor is the future, that tells how this technology company values technical contributors, higher management do not like deal directly with technical contributors because they do not know what to talk at the technical level. They will promote and keep close circle of people who just talk. Your technical contribution is forgotten in the next performance cycle

CL28 technical track is great, they will reserve a very very comfy spot for you in NI.

Congrats on being able to break out of 27. Maybe one day... Sigh.

If you are technical you will not be able to maintain your ranking in CL-28/CL-29. Managers are in top 1/3 in CL-28/CL-29. All technical are in the bottom 2/3rds.

Really depends on the pool you’re in. If you are in. 25-29 pool versus a 28-29 only pool, as an example, could be easier or harder to complete. Same for global versus local pools. Generally, 28 is seen as a huge step up from 27, especially in Central Organizations, thus expectation of you is higher. 28-29 roles typically have larger scopes or span of control than the typical 26-27 roles. If you are technical track as a 28 or managerial track as a 28 likely has impacts here as well.
