Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Watching people quit right now is crazy

Layoffs have been happening all the time, they’re not stopping any time soon, and that means severance. Why would you walk away when you can make the company pay you to cut you? You’re just leaving money on the table. I’d never give them the easy way out.

They've been making up fake PIPs. Then they fire you for poor performance, no severance.

You could be waiting for the call forever. Is it worth staying there when we all know the reality of the company. Mental Health is bandied about a lot the last few years but this place really does bring a person down. I'm out over a year now and honestly I wish I did it sooner.

Because they DON’T pay severance because they try to make every firing “for cause.”

2 folks quit in our department here without jobs to go to as they just couldn’t take it anymore…that says a lot….

There are people in various offices that are not likely to get laid off unless they are really doing a poor job. Lake Mary is a growth center and they are struggling to hire enough people so it has to be a big issue if you get fired. The people putting in notice realize they are not going to be let go anytime soon so just want to take control of their own destiny.

The best time to look for a job is when you are employed. Employers do not like gaps. Also the job market is pretty tough at the moment. For reference, with 10+ years of experience it took me almost a year to find a better job. My resume got plenty of traction, interviews and interest but to actually land a job will take more time than you may anticipate.

Calculated risk. I guess if you're confident you can land a job quickly then it makes sense to wait it out. But if someone has been here long enough to accrue a decent severance, I'd guess it could take a bit to find a new one.

Yeah, why bust your hump when you get laid off anyway and don’t get a severance? It’s a non zero chance for anyone.

People are leaving on their own because they’re now sc--wing people out of severance that they’ve earned… So you’re losing your job and not getting compensated for them downsizing you

Severance was one of the things that kept me here the past couple years, but that is changing
