Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

So how is RTO going?

Is it actually being mandated?
Has anyone just decided that knot go in to the office?
Anyone quitting? Anyone being fired?
What about folks outside of 40 miles?

If Cisco mandates a RTO, I'm sure it'll all be automated like how Dell started color coding employees on how often they badge into the office. Cisco is instrumented in so many ways to execute layoffs consistently when they need to balance the books to deliver consistent shareholder value. This would be one more thing counted against you during layoff season.

Word in the field is that those allowed to work remote will be required to post a monthly log of what they worked on per hour.

I can't confirm, but I've seen all-hands recordings where CX "mandated" it for 2 or 3 days a week for their org, but whether or not people are doing it or not I don't know. Or if CX is even tracking it to enforce it.

I can state that the parking lots around the trio of open buildings in RTP have a lot more cars there in the middle of the week than before. When I go in for the occasional all-hands or team catered lunch, the place seems busy but that could just be because everyone wants a free lunch. :-)

You don't expect people to out themselves by saying they're just ignoring the mandate, do you? I'm sure there will be tons of trolls saying that they are ignoring it or that they quit, but did they really?

at least from where I look in SBG engineering, I don't see how RTO is even possible

we have people all over the place, and even many of those I knew in years past who lived close to an office have since dispersed so they could buy a house

so what do you do, tell the 5% of team members who live near an office to RTO while the other 95% get to skate?

replacing the 95% of team members who remote in from flyover country is not realistic

in the end I can see it all be twisted into a "benefit": yes, we pay you less, but we'll let you work from rural Je-kwater
