Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Can we get some normal managers, please?

The last three I have had were either bullies, micromanagers, or both. Giving feedback to any of them was like pulling teeth, painful and pointless. I would pay good money for a competent manager who actually knows what they are doing and is genuinely helpful for a change.

Your managers are what their leaders tell them to be. Remember their leaders hired or promoted them.

Agree. I can relate to the bullying and micromanagement. It’s like a full time job just dealing with their controlling, ego, panicking, and nonsense fire drills. Not normal and is a waste of resources. Hope the clueless leadership gets cleared soon so IC can actually progress.

In my 19 years with USAA, 95% of the managers I’ve had were horrible. I can count on 1 hand the amount of competent managers I’ve had, answer is 3 and my current manager/director is part of that 3.

@hx+1jt15mx24 bud, the executive council is 8/11 white. You think it would be 100% white if merit based?

Call it whatever, the better companies can pay for 'merit', and treat their employees better. USAA cant do that.

DEI should I've been called DIE because that is what happens when you employ people based on anything other than merit. We have seen The negative consequences of hiring people based on any characteristic other than merit for many years.

Yes let's all blame the current boogeyman DEI. Grow up.

Agree that 'Normal' leadership is underrated at USAA.

Execs use feedback to figure out who to 'fix'. Listen for when they backstab people below them.

You're speaking to an entire country of office workers. I don't work for USAA, but the company I work for hires completely inept people who are compliant, docile and timid. Their lack of skills promotes them. It's unfortunate because these managers have no idea what everyone is doing or how the department operates. But hey, they make the big bucks now.

DEI is a huge part of it at my company. Now, they're wondering why the company isn't making any money. You can't when incompetency abounds.
