Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Anyone know how many people were surplused 4/28?

Does anyone have insight into how many folks were surplused on 4/28, and what the criteria to be surplused was?

“Don’t something like 10000 people retire every year?”
The number is a little higher, but they end up staying on active payroll for another 10-15 years. This is finally being stopped.

This is getting ridiculous, quit nickle and diming us. If we need to eliminate 70K, do it now, there is not enough work to support all these ringers.

When do the folks who were on the 4/28 call that said they were impacted know they’re impacted?

“Just about every management job can be done offshore.”

True statement.

Orgs were mostly Legg and McElfresh. 25% were Lead/Principal and up (AD, Director, a few AVP).

Regarding the “ 200 folks on the surplus information call I attended”, wow. That’s a lot. what org is that from? Any more details on locations, job levels, job titles?

The company threw them a bone by allowing those affected to WFH until released from payroll, give or take 2-3 weeks.

Can these “dead weight” comments be blocked? I know several people in this latest round of layoffs whose knowledge and accomplishments would dwarf those of these brave keyboard warriors who hide behind anonymity and love to dismiss lifelong careers with two mindless words. Some of us are actually here to try and pass on useful information and hear about what is going on and I’m tired of seeing good, hard-working people being slandered.

There were over 200 folks on the surplus information call I attended. I know there was at least one other session for those who are Medicare or MR75 eligible. Many on the call just missed eligibility by <2 years. Others mentioned being virtual. About 40% on this call were NFTO in the hubs.

More than I originally thought for sure. It was mostly quiet I know people who suddenly vanished and are WFH until May 12th. It even happened in groups that have job postings at the same time. Bizarre, but that’s the way it is…… I’m about numb to it now but hate it for those impacted.

To be surplused there us only one criteria used - you have to be T employee.
