Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

You’re not working towards your retirement at Verizon, you’re working for your severance

Verizon does layoffs every single year. You’re not working towards your retirement at Verizon, you’re working for your severance. I was with Verizon for 20 years and I was laid off about a year ago. The severance is great, you can also collect unemployment, and the job market is still really good. I landed at a company and career I love making about the same pay I did when I was laid off. I worked at 2 different companies before I ended up at my current company. I changed my mindset after I was let go. I no longer work for not am I loyal to a company, I work for myself and I’m loyal to me. That’s why I left the 2 companies I landed with after Verizon, it wasn’t a good fit and I stayed loyal to myself. Im glad I did because I love my company and job now. Don’t stress, things will always work themselves out in the end.

I'm late 50s and looking forward to when my time is up. Kind of had enough but it's a lot of compensation to walk away from.

I'm 36 and just was just riffed....employee of 8 years. My severance and retirement are the same.

Instead of working for my money, I made 85.5% of the money VZ paid me work for me. It wasn't even a lot of money...but I just do smart things with money instead of spending it.

OP, though you work for yourself and are only loyal to yourself, it’s gotta suck going back to one or two weeks vacation at this point, and having millennials order you around like you’re a teen again.

Seriously, you are going to work until you are 67-72 years old? Get a life!

Speak for yourself, I got 39 years in. I am definitely working toward my retirement. Who knows, I may work another 10-15 years.
