Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

They want toovenour department from Atlanta

To Dallas but there will be no relocation dollars. I want to keep my job but without guarantees and having to cover selling a condo and either renting or buying in Dallas along with the move is gonna cost me $25000 give or take. No iron clad guarantee that I will have 2,3...4 years of employment etc.....I said yeahh I will do it for now but I am bailing on ATT at the end of the day. I know within a year of movement to Dallas the pink slip would arrive. Pay me severance Death Star.

This is what you should do! Air bnb the condo or short term lease it and get you a STUDIO OR ONE BEDROOM APT IN Dallas to test the water with a one year lease . If the company tries to play dirty while you are there, you will have the condo covered and no house to worry about selling in Dallas! While in Dallas, search back in your hometown area for jobs to move back to while your condo is sublet/ bnb’d. And check the job market. See what’s the main thing in your local area that’s in high demand… if you don’t have that skill, crack open tuition reimbursement! I believe there are clauses if laid off they STILL may pay to get your cert or degree after layoff! Please check into all of this! Best of luck!

Don't entertain their doubletalk BS about moving with the work. You have been laid off. Act and prepare accordingly. Tell them yes or tell them no, that is a roll of the dice on which pays better - but do not pack up your stuff and move to Dallas, because they don't actually want you there. You will be gone less than 2 years after moving. Paid relocation would be the bare minimum for asking you to move for legitimate reasons.

Don't move for this company cuz you'll regret it in the long run or maybe even the short run! There are certainly much better companies to work for without the incessant threat of layoffs! I've been with this company for decades and the layoffs have never stopped. The one constant in this company is layoffs!

Should have just told them you wouldn’t move. You would get the same time before they cut you and you would get severance. Net net would have been better. They aren’t waiting a year anymore, they are giving people weeks to a couple months.

Never heard of toovenour
Feels like a honeytoken to see who searches that name on the internal directory.

Just give us a department name.

Using names of people other than top level execs is against the terms of service here

If you say you will move and then change your mind,, you will end up being terminated and lose your severance. Go ahead and take the severance payment now.

Moving closer to Satan's butt hole isn't the answer.

You need a union contract.

I wouldn't recommend relocating to any other city just to keep the same job. If you want to move to that city anyway, then that's a reason. If they wanted you, there would be relocation. There would be a promotion/raise. There would be expected security.
