Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

New CEO

And just like that, Witty is no longer CEO and Hemsley is back as CEO. Hmmm 🤔

Hemsley may have invested in culture early on, but he’s also the one who engineered the entire global delivery model that’s now phasing out U.S. roles. Offshoring to India and the Philippines began under his leadership from 2006–2017 and has only expanded since.

Now that he’s stepping back in as CEO while still Chair of the Board, this isn’t about rebuilding culture. It's about tightening control and executing quickly. It's about share holder profits. He’s won't slow offshoring or protect jobs. He’s the one who laid the foundation for what's happening now.

If anything, this has probably expedited layoffs. UHG has a history of cutting people during losses and then just rehiring later.

I think Hemsley was way better. He instituted the culture change that pushed divisions/departments to work together. It was a huge investment in the culture and honestly it helped! Managers were sent to training to learn how to create a better culture. Hemsley was definitely no nonsense, but in the beginning of his tenure Uhc was known for doing the right thing more often.

I don’t know what his plans are, but he created a better culture and was known for being strategic.

I wish I could witness what the mood is at the office there now. I only worked for these dudes:

William W. McGuire (1987-2006)
Stephen Hemsley (2006-2017)

There was always a lot of back-stabbing because of the way they did their review process but the company and products were largely respected.

Hey! Another extremely wealthy white dude who only looks out for the shareholders!

Hensley is a no bullsh-t CEO. There’s black or white, no grey. He looks at the numbers and the facts. Interesting choice if the board is looking to get back to foundational growth but we’ll see.

Genuine question from someone who has ONLY been here during Witty's reign.... is Hemsley any better?

Took long enough. Witty should have been gone long ago.
