What is this recent focus on office titles? And why are there P5s with a “managing director” title? Does it change your comp?

When our current manager was still a team member, he posted on LI he was a team manager. After he was promoted to manager, he updated his LI profile to indicate he was a director and CTO.
All of the titles here are fluff and make people sound more senior than they are. Most "executive directors" are freaking individual contributors. At a company outside of banking, an executive director is like 1-2 down from the CEO.
Officer titles aren’t for the employee- they benefit the bank. An “officer” or “vp”however fluffy- is considered on paper to be a more senior level and requires a longer notice period if you leave the bank. If you breach the required notice period, the bank has leverage to not pay you for vacation accrued as you have essentially broken your employment contract by giving the standard 2 weeks instead of what is now required of officers (likely 4 weeks). Nothing is for your benefit, which is kind of funny watching those who slurp these titles up like koolaid.
officer titles mean nothing - zero - in terms of compensation or authority.
they are aligned wiht the functional titles - EXCEPT - when the new "rules" were instituted for officer titles last year, they grandfathered existing/legacy officer titles -that's why you see a P5 with a managing director title. MD=SVP
Pffftttt what a bunch of bs! Back in the day, it used to mean something to have an officer title because you had to meet specific criteria. Nowadays officer titles are given to anyone based on their functional title.
Aren't wellsfargo Buisiness Execution consultants the guys with no real job skills and the ones who came up with the convuluted proesses that don't work? Perfect example is the CAB process. Mo--ns making decisions with no knowledge of what they are approving. yea that works. next wellsfargo will hire a bunch of agile coaches to waste our time making 3 cards with special categories.
It is truely amazing how Wellsfargo csurvived without all this needless and stupid process lead by dunderheads.
Oh and lets not leave out Security people that have no clue how to manage security other then apply as much as possible everywhere until peo;ple spend most of their day trying to log into a windows server . How Security manged to fxck up windows security so bad that Ansible can't even work well with a windows servr.
thats automation you can tell your manager about.
Free Director Titles With Every Samosa.
I worked with a couple Indian contractors. After they left here one of them said they were Head Supreme Chancellor of the Dept. Guy couldn't even do a vlookup. Not kidding he ended up somehow getting a sr analytics manager role at BOA. And i have little doubt he will be fired in a couple years and rehired here in charge of 1000's.
The titles are so that you can go on linkedIn and tell them you are an Executive Director or a VP. It's also great when you need to brag to your friends that you are a Dircector.
Especially for Indioans who get promoted based on time in service rather then skills or actual ability to proofread a change.
You would be surprised how many people actually believe this title is something besides another wellsfargo piece of bullsh1t.
No it usually comes with a functional title. Much bigger deal in India than here. In the states no one notices
No change to comp
