Thread regarding Ford layoffs

No rehire policy?

Did anyone else who was laid off notice anything in their severance package about rehire eligibility? Mine states that I’m permanently ineligible to work for Ford again—even as a contractor.

That feels extreme, especially since my layoff wasn’t performance-related. I consistently received strong performance reviews.

ford's buyout deal is not worth the paper its printed on. Someone took google to court, google had the same wording in there buyout as ford. The court says it was illegal. I know a handful of people that went back. After 1 year you can go back, even as salaried. Its best now to go anywhere as contract, to many companies are firing salaried people and saying your banned from coming back. If your agency they cant do anything to you. You can come back the next day in a new job at ford.

detnews just said Nissan just got rid of 20,000 people both union and salaried. Rumors are Stellantis is on the verge of bankruptcy. Automotive now is not safe.

It is in the retirement section. I think it only applies to retirement, not the general severance package.

After being treated this way, do you really want to go back?

If you’ve been working at Ford for 15-20 years, you paid off your house, your wife has a job, your kids are in high school, and the job market in SE MI su-ks, yeah, you don’t really want to go back to Ford but if you could, it would be a whole lot easier than moving or commuting an hour and a half each way to work at some tier-3 supplier (who by the way thinks your subhuman because you can’t speak Japanese).

You must be one of those that likes the abuse. Getting beaten and abused for years and you want more? LOL

The problem is that it says you can't work at a supplier if you would be required to go to a Ford site. Kind of hard to work at a supplier for the rest of your life if you can't go to the customer. And there's only 3 around in MI

Why on earth would you want to come back? Start applying for other jobs and you will find a job that you are happier at and pays more than Ford! Good golly!

You can come back as a Purchased Service employee. That is how my boss brought me back in 2022 the month after I left. If you have a skill Ford needs, there is always an exception.

You have no skill the company wants or needs
They've seen what you've got and weren't impressed and never want you back
Go apply to the government

An HR director can override that clause, when you are rehired. Just have to know someone.

Actually,... double checked. It's NOT in the waiver, but rather in the Group CTP package document. So yes, I do have it as well.

I'm not in CA and I don't have this clause.

I think only in CA it is null and void, all other states are allowing this clause

Reemployment by Ford or a Ford-Controlled Company or Assignment to
Ford (not contingent upon signing the waiver)

"You will not be eligible for reemployment with Ford directly or assigned to perform work for Ford through an agency or otherwise, except where prohibited by law. You may work for suppliers of Ford, however, you may not accept an assignment with a supplier that would have you physically assigned to a Ford location to conduct this work."

I was a contractor and I don't have any mentions about rehire policy in my termination letter

What is the exact phrasing in your severance package? I don't see it in mine... unless I'm looking for the wrong thing.
