@xtm+1jvakhDq It isn't a difficult concept to understand, but you seem to have trouble. The separation packages are inducements to leave, and lawsuit avoidance. Rather than going through a dragged out PIP process, and continuing to pay someone, they offer the package to be done with it. As for you, you can keep working and keep getting paid. But you apparently don't want to keep working, at least not at Ford. So do what people have always done - find another job, or retire. Why would the company give you a separation package when leaving is your choice?

The obvious answer is YES of course it’s legal. The guise of this plan is Ford has a group of folks who have already been identified as poor performers that are currently on PIP. Rather than waste time with additional improvement plans here is some money to leave now. Otherwise risk being fired later and get zero.
Nobody has a guaranteed right of employment at Ford especially if they have documentation that you are a poor performer.
This is not something to be proud of , if you are currently employed be thankful that you still have a job. And if you don’t like your job than just quit and stop whining about it because nobody is shedding any tears about a bunch of greedy SOBs that are upset because they aren’t getting gift baskets and money bags to leave a company that they hate…..LOL

Except its not for low performers. They are manufacturing declining performance at the quarterly review. Top down target lists
