What is the reasoning of them banning you from working for Ford for life? I don't understand that part at all

@eq+1jvcywmyk "Ford is a very strange company"... yep the longer you are there, the more you realize it. bizarre-o land. i used to be all buy american, but do they deserve it any more? the people who make the money are the middlemen managers and execs. everybody else gets the rug pulled out from them eventually. and they continually mess up the progress they made previously in quality.
If you’ve never been exiled from a group, you probably won’t understand this.
When you leave a job, you’re also leaving a geoup of people that became part of your life for 5, 10, maybe 30 years.
It’s your “pack”, to borrow a term from the movie Ice Age. Losing that is more than just losing an income.
Intellectually, you understand that the relationship is an exchange of your time and skills for money. But it’s hard to stay intellectual when you are cut off from that group.
It’s easier to do when you leave by your own will at the time of your choosing. Even so, the characters that were in your life day after day haunt your dreams.
Yes, there is a longing to go back, even if you know in your head that it’s best to move on.

@OP is a clause added by the Ford legal team. SO was hit in the 2019 smart redesign. The LL3 in his area released all the tech spec LL6s, of which my SO was one. Three weeks later a company that FoMoCo uses purchased services for IT talent called offering a job. Wanna guess where the primary job assignment was? That’s right a company located in Dearborn. Wanna guess what the job responsibilities were? That’s right the ones that supposedly were no longer needed, ergo the layoff.
The backstory, immediately after the smart redesign, the LL3 promoted a slew of FnF to the LL6 positions and none of them could do their jobs, so they were allowed to hire / contract out their job responsibilities.
SO declined the job offer indicating not interested in working at FoMoCo. The company subsequently offered a similar job with a relo package out of MI which worked out wonderfully.
Yes @OP laid off workers can come back as purchased services or contractors, but why would you want to?
They probably figure that if you have not learned how to kiss a posterior orifice to keep your job in your 1st 90 days as a Ford employee or contractor that you are never going to figure it out. Hence no rehiring!

The ban on re-employment proves that people are being fired for purely personal reasons that have nothing at all to do with education, skills and abilities.
So, what are those reasons? Why don’t they like you? Wrong age? You have a pension? Wong gender? Your manager has the hots for you and you rejected him? Wrong race? Wrong ethnicity?
My interrupted career started at Ford in 1994, Visteon split deprived me of a future pension. I was let go by Visteon then hired by Ford 2x with FCA sandwiched in between.
It took longer than a previous employee at Ford to get hired again, 10 years later I am ready to retire anytime soon.
It is possible to be rerhired.
@a4+1jvcywmyk I have seen 55 years old run circles around today’s generation because they know to work and get the job done without constantly being on our phones, sitting at home, only communicating by social media, and doing nothing. Go Blow yourself!

Your employment was terminated because you lacked the skills and experience the company needed at that time, right? Ostensibly not because of you. Not because of your performance or some violation of company policy.
So you get a job at another company and gain valuable experience or go back to school and gain valuable skills, yet Ford still doesn’t want anything to do with you?
That proves that you were terminated for something personal.

This isn’t the way it used to be. Ford and the other carmakers were awaysnlaying people off when sales were down and bringing them back when economic conditions allowed.
People could live with this. But this new policy really is insane.
so, you left/released , went to a startup and that acquired by ford, now what.

@OP+1jvcywmyk If you are released (fired) Ford doesn’t want you back in any capacity, which includes being an agency worker or on a purchased service. Anyone who has been a Ford employee before must go through reemployment review before coming back (which is the hiring manager’s job to ensure happens, but can and does get missed, tbh), even if you left voluntarily. If you are released, your reemployment will not be approved.
The above only applies to Ford employees who are released. A PS or agency person who is cut are generally allowed to come back.
The problem with people over 50 is their tendency to object when management insists on doing something stupid.
Many employees in their 50s, probably most, aren’t in the old pension plan and don’t cost the company any more than a younger person with the same pay. But, they were fired because someone with a pension was the same age. And just to make it seem fair, an equal number of younger people were axed too.
There is no integrity in business, just the threat of unionization.
Anyone over 55 are no longer useful at any company.
Ford’s been caught in some hot water before over age discrimination—and yeah, they settled, which basically means they lost. I remember around 2019 when they did the “smart redesign.” A bunch of older employees got laid off under the excuse that their skills weren’t needed anymore. But here’s the kicker: some of those same folks were brought back later as contractors. So much for “skills not needed,” right? That kind of move made it pretty clear it wasn’t really about skills—it was about age and cutting costs. Age discrimination is illegal, of course. Trying to dodge higher salaries? Shady, but not against the law. Now they’ve got this “no re-hire” clause in place to cover their backs and try to avoid more lawsuits. Honestly, it’s fu---d up.
