Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Boohoo StankPot

Stank got his pa-ties in a twist last Friday afternoon because EXEMPT MANAGERS were leaving at 3:30 pm.

Lol!!! Sent out memo demanding reports are triple checked to be sure hub managers aren't skipping out too early. But the 45% of his employees that are not mandatory 5x8 are just fine. Y'all can start the holiday weekend at noon tomorrow.

A lot of us are doing 6am to 2pm....8 hours and if you get in before 6 or stay until after 2, you are credited with 15mins either way. Also, leave COU at desk, as they are tracking location, in case we decide to go to lunch with a vendor...

If I go to lunch with a coworker then it counts as work. It’s collaborating. It’s what they want. Who am I to argue.

" are there really people who only WORK 35 hours and get paid for an additional 5 hours they sit in the cafeteria"
There is not a single company policy that states exempt employees must take an unpaid lunch. In fact, there is not a single law that says if an exempt mgr takes a lunch it must be unpaid.

There may be, but that is the issue of that individual's boss, not all of that employee's peers. A good leader knows this and acts accordingly. When you punish all for the actions of a few then you destroy the culture.

Stankey has about bled the company knowledge out with all his force reductions. Put the company into historical debt with so many failed media acquisitions. Sold off everything but the kitchen sink. Reduced the dividend by half and is now paying off the globalist elite with stock buybacks instead of reducing massive debt the company has on the books. He also reduced or eliminated nearly all company benefits. The sycophants supporting him are complicit with ruining a historic company. A lot of current and former employees are suffering from Randall’s and Stankey’s poor leadership along with all the forced “soft layoff” relocation plan of RTO to the furthest Hub away.

I'm not talking about the people who have to put in time on nights and weekends and end up 40+, but are there really people who only WORK 35 hours and get paid for an additional 5 hours they sit in the cafeteria or a restaurant and get paid for a non-working lunch?

Yes, a lot of people eat lunch at their desks and work. No we don’t get any paid breaks. No you don’t have to be there 9 hrs to make up for lunch. 7-3, 8-4, 9-5 are valid hours for exempt. Only hourly folks stay that extra hour to make up for the unpaid breaks. Though I’d be more than happy to switch to hourly as my team is 24/7/365 and I would more than double my salary if I got OT, ATT gets way more than 40 hrs out of us. Some weeks I have to work 17-20hrs per day for several days or even weeks at a time with no time off. That being said, if one day it’s slow and I’m not feeling it or have a personal matter I need to take care of, yes I’m going to leave early. Friday was one of those days. Don’t like it, too bad, it goes both ways. I document all my time, write me up or fire me because I left the office a tad early and a court and jury are going to have a field day with ATT.

Now some managers will be reporting to their new office with Lumen or soon to be Networkco. If Stankey can convince with the, we only hire, promote, fire based on merit, it’s a BIG LIE that probably won’t get past the FCC.

exempt management is not legally required to take a lunch break.

Not legally required to take one, but if I do go to lunch, I don't count that as part of my (minimum of) 40 hours. Every salaried job I've ever had, if I wanted to sit somewhere besides my desk, I backed that out of my total time. I usually am "at work" for 8.5-9 hours, which includes either a 30-minute away-from-my-desk lunch or an hour if I go get food.

I’m going on 19 years here and T has always paid for my hour lunch. Sometimes i’d eat at my desk and work but always leave an hour early because I didnt get to eat in peace without unplugging from work activities. That’s my rule and I don’t budge. If I have a 3pm call that some Agile we---e deemed my attendance necessary, i always, always take it on the road back home. Not interested in what some fear mongering nut sack has to say about reports. Teams has me covered.

@h4 “ But do we really believe people are skipping lunch and/or eating at their desks?” exempt management is not legally required to take a lunch break. And yes, every manager I know eats their lunch at their desk.

"But do we really believe people are skipping lunch and/or eating at their desks?"

Based on how much food scraps I see at the various desks the next day, the answer is unequivocally "yes".

Indeed. I’ve noticed a (chosen) few of the golden child, teacher’s pets who were granted TW.

We have managers who show up at 5 AM 6 AM in office then they go home at two and work from home till 5 PM or later, so they’re putting in 12 hours a day but only getting credit for 8. I know if they off-line and aren’t reachable at four pm there’s gonna be questions that have to be answered .

I used to began work at 6am in San Antonio, took no breaks and ate lunch at my desk - and left at 3:30pm in order to beat traffic and Chris T. Rice told my stupid boss that I had to work Core Hours - whatever that was. I mean, I supported 4 time zones do what are the Core Hours?
And, how did my VP know that I wasn't there at 5pm?
Glad I retired from this clown show.
