Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford is for the most part an engineering company

And yet most people that work there can't do simple math, 5+2 x 3 = if you come up with 21 you are the problem.

The process as I see it is

  • a castle is built in the sky
  • management is wallpapering, hanging drapes and fussing over decorating
  • meanwhile the engineers are frantically pointing out that the foundation was not laid
  • managers claim the engineers are malcontents/worrywarts and proceed to manufacture more castles in the sky
  • customers take delivery of castles, open the front door, take a step and plummet to the ground
  • warrantee costs skyrocket
  • management uses emails from engineers warning them of the missing foundation to blame and fire the engineers.
  • rinse and repeat

For one a GSR or LL6 Engineer do not make the decisions. that comes from middle management. In fact, there is more focus on cost than doing the right thing. Quite a few of us could wallpaper a house with the BS deviations we have to generate because we are forced to go a certain route all in the order of cost.

All wrong. The answer is 42.

Stunning there are so many malcontents - as usual for the LayOff. If the OP witnessed this - then yes, that'd explain the quality problems.

I’m in accounting, and I can see how someone could come up with 21.
I calculate 11.
How would the answer be -7?

With all due respect, it's not 11......
PEMDAS (order of operations) would not apply in the case as all numbers are prime numbers and the total numbers in the equation is also a prime number. In this case the answer is in fact -7.......

Engineering company? Doubtful. Our suppliers do 90% of our engineering. We could eliminate 80% or our LL6's and 40% our the GSR's, replace with low cost engineers (they actually do work and can engineer) , and be more productive and efficient.

Lame. As if order of operations is the skill people lack causing warranty issues. Ambiguous communication is a bigger issue. Sure, people should know, but you either provide clear requirements, or you don't. If you work with people who don't understand, perhaps you should toss in some parentheses. Problem solved. Go away OP.
