Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Technology

Anyone else notice their laptop has been ridiculously slow, especially starting around the time they install that spy/tracking/micro-managing software?!?
Constantly getting alerts for updates with that program in my laptop takes 5+ min to save/close/open anything.. I would accomplish a lot more in a day if this laptop would let me- it’s very frustrating!

And yes, I’ve dedicated endless amounts of time on the phone with Support.. it’s apparently impossible to fix. Perhaps if they could issue laptops with more memory or faster processing since we are trying to get some work done here- that would be great.

If you're in technology, then you'll get a relatively powerful computer, which may remain on your profile even if you go elsewhere. Otherwise I suspect computers are viewed as basically terminal emulators that don't have to be very powerful.

My laptop takes 3 minutes at home via VPN and 5 minutes in the office.

Can't make this stuff up.

I would try to get more memory for the computer, although they would reply you have the right one for your profile -- the time you spend waiting is appropriate.

@3ysq+1jwNGf7X - depends what kind of tracking you're talking about. They've installed tracking software for basic info via SSO (nbk number, log in location/time + log off location/time - which server the computer is using, etc., what websites a user visits, etc.)

they also track VPN hours. Pre-pandemic there was a monthly report to manager showing employees who were logged on via VPN for more than 70 hours/month.

As for tracking about specific tasks by user, how long, etc. -- I don't think so, but suppose they could if there was appetite to view such a detailed report. I'm a manager and would only look at a report like that if I had a severe underperformer or someone I was trying to build a case to replace.

Are they really installing tracking software?

Put in a ticket for a swap or reimage

i've noticed same, but when you look at the most active processes during start up, it's more security/risk mngt/anti-hacking - not so much added user-tracking.

They can track me all they want, but every time there is a major hack somewhere in the world, I seem to receive more software/updates and added protocols that massively slow down my laptop's start up and power off cycles. Literally coincides with the headlines.

pain in the a$$
