Too many clowns in important roles

With all the cost cutting left and right can we put some money aside to get most of our folks in leadership positions red noses since they can’t help it but act like clowns?

Competency in my site has dropped significantly over the last five years, and it’s hard not to notice. Despite this, we keep making decisions that only seem to compound the problem. It’s frustrating. Do we really need to wait for a serious injury or major safety incident before something changes? Why can’t we be proactive for once?

But of course, the focus is always on short-term wins — just enough to look good on an assessment — even when those decisions create long-term problems. Why would anyone care about long-term impacts when you’re being judged on short-term achievements? Oh wait… maybe that’s how we ended up with so many clowns in higher-up positions.
