Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Large scale layoffs this month and next

Tools down guys, first round June and second round July. AEs with no pipeline, overlays and underperforming BUs are gone first then marketing. Deeper cuts in July.

Reliable senior source.

Stop working now and get your CV out. The ELT has gone too far this time. I am not doing another ounce of work till I find a new job. Enough is enough.

@fg you are definitely living in a different world than the rest of Teradata, we are SHRINKING!! Look at the numbers, shrinking in customers and shrinking in revenue. We do NOT have growth, we are shrinking, significantly, stop listening to the BS from SM about Cloud growth, they get PAID on cloud even though the overall revenue, customer count and employee count are steadily decreasing.

@b6 that seems very deep to me. I guess you were wrong.

@b0 It's not sales; it's the horrible leadership. How long does a CEO have to su-k before they are gone? He will leave with millions; he wins either way!

Last RIF was in November. Every six months the trigger is pulled and if you are 56 years or older watch out. This has been going on for over 10 years. To avoid age related discrimination, they bundle roles across geographic areas, not at the local team level. The local team loses the most experienced person in the group but smoke and mirrors hide the fact that the old must go!

@fy Mind sharing which department?

I was laid off 4 hours ago along with several others. 15 min call with manager and HR was all it took. Good riddance to this terrible workplace, toxic culture, really bad product and having to listen to the ELT act and carry on like everything is fine and dandy.

“Thriving in its own special way”? Hahahahahaha

@f5 Because most TD employees have very little knowledge of competitors products, and a shockingly large number of Product engineering staff have almost no idea what customers actually do with the product, and thus no real idea why so many former TDC customers have jumped to other platforms. So it must be Sales' fault!

Oh please — spare us the fake news. TD is definitely thriving… in its own special way. Stay confident!

Why do you all keep blaming sales all the time? Product’s cr-p, nobody will buy this legacy stack. There are way better options available in the market.

@b6 Declining revenue is a result of declining customer count which then has resulted unfortunately in a decline in head count. The ELT have to be blamed for not only the lack of strategy but also shielding those sales people who YOY have failed to not only win new logos but build trusted relationships on existing accounts. They have relied on renewals to bail them out instead of proactively engaging with the clients on how TD can further assist with the strategic needs. Complacency from AE's and Service sales has resulted in the likes of Snowflake and Databricks engaging the same clients to share a strategic vision through collaboration and build trust. None of these key players that have contributed to the continuous decline with take accountability. Sales is not just about keeping the status quo, it's having the capability and vision to think about adding value through engaging with the clients to enable the clients strategic roadmap.

Layoffs will not be as deep as this post makes it sounds. Most companies will quietly mention layoffs/RIFs in SEC filings several weeks or even months in advance to soften the blow to stock prices. And there have been none. This layoff will likely be 3-4% of the ~5000 people left. What employees should be more concerned about is the declining revenue, declining head count, and declining customer count. Those three metrics point to a company in trouble. And if you listen to the earnings call, the analysts know. They are holding onto false hope and sadly, many of the employees are too. I wish the best for the TDC product, but it’s very likely this company will not be around in 10 years.

I would have assumed anyone with talent and a future would have left Teradata by now. Apparently there are some who are eternal optimists.

Of course, the useless Directors and up will drain the milk from the cow until it’s dead. Then they’ll go infect another company.

Until there is a clear-out of underperforming sales people, this will continue to happen. Strategy from ELT may be the core reason for the decline at the company but there are far too many people in the sales org that whether it's through lack of ability or selfishness and a desire to shield themselves have failed their colleagues. It is unfortunate that this will once again result in good people losing their jobs. Time for self reflection for these highly paid individuals and those who have allowed this to continue for as long as it has. The worrying thing is that, these failed sales people will probably not even acknowledge their failures and the worst thing is, some of them know they have been taking an easy ride whilst other take the fall but that is ok in their minds.

More cost cutting, I stopped working the last round and so did most of the people I know. That won’t change till people start seeing the humanity come back to the company. What is a business without its employees
