Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Nobody young is sticking around, and I can’t blame them

Some of us have been here since the days when loyalty meant job security, but that hasn’t been true for a long time. Why would anyone want to build a career here when they know they could be laid off any day, no matter how much work or effort they put in? I know if I was any younger, I'd be looking for a way out right now.

Good for them. My standard advice has been to get out as soon as possible, the company is failing in every possible metric and the employees are cheering on the collapse. Not that it matters, there are an unlimited supply of young H1Bs who will let Johnny and Jeffy abuse them however they like as long as they get to keep their visa, and the government will not let a major wireless and backbone network provide go bankrupt. It will continue to be a robber-baron crony party in Dallas for the forseeable future.

Stop being so bitter. We are still here. We make communication go.

"And yet you stay."

Obviously, reading comprehension is not your strong suit. The OP literally tells you that he only stays because he is older, and the rest of his comments is about how the younger folks do not really benefit by making AT&T a career.

Yaw mfrs better use ATT tuition reimbursement to get a degree and use att as a stepping stone to a better job in the future. Dont be d-mb thinking they gonna keep paying us 50+ an hour to keep up this old a-s equipment

“ How do you get to 2nd level with no degree?”

I know a L3 that lacks a degree, but he’s been here 30+ years.

"And yet you stay"
The ONLY reason people stay is for the money. In the meantime, most are looking elsewhere. No reason to quit unless you have another job.

Unless you know someone in the C-suite, you're going nowhere in this company! This is a very large company and it seems that you have to have former family members that have worked here and left a legacy of their own. That would help you move up because I've seen it on my own how nepotism works. My 2nd level manager did not even have a college degree, but he had a Father and Grand-father that both work for T prior to his arrival. Helped move him up the ranks very quickly! How do you get to 2nd level with no degree?

With constant layoffs and hiring freezes that last forever, there’s zero chance of moving up in this company. Whatever entry level job you managed to get hired on as is all you can ever be at this company. Why would anyone join this dumpster fire or stay for anything more than a temporary pay check?
