Pre-screen??

Serious replies only, please

I've been at the company a while and I've never had a "pre-screen" call with a recruiter for an internal posting until now. Anyone know what one should expect and/or prepare? I'm thinking maybe it's to validate that the resume isn't a buncha BS, but would love some insight. Thanks in advance!

i’ve had a “prescreen” phone conversation VZ recruiter that was a very brief conversation covering the basics and I’ve had “prescreen” conversations with VZ recruiters that were full on surprise interviews with the five questions and everything.

HR's ways to verify you meet all the requirements, skills, education listed for the job you applied.

Sound likable and someone who plays well with others even in rough circumstances and have a couple of anecdotal experiences to back up what you are saying.

Use the buzz words of the posted job req and how you personal fit in with them.

Remember HR knows HR and HR things, not the things you will be hired to do. They do however have a tic and tie list of things that the hiring manager wants in the person who will fill the position.

So be likable and use this screening as a warm up for how you will answer how you best fit the job req requirements andf what you will bring to the party.

Hiring is one of the worst parts of the job. So make yourself the winner.

Remember the hiring boss has a job to do every day and right now is short handed until they hire someone. So they do not want to waste a lot of time interviewing everyone who applied for the job. They don't have the time nor patience.

So HR screens the pool of applicants and sends the one that pass the screen onto the hiring manager to interview that person for the job. It saves a lot of time and aggravation. But hiring su-ks to a manager.

If you can show that manager how you can make their life easier and help their boss to succeed, than you will get the job. No one wants another pain in the backside. Everyone wants to do their thing and get paid for it.

A prescreen is to see if you are even qualified to be a candidate based on the specifics they are seeking. Everyone may have the requisite letters, or experience, but a prescreen gets to the table stakes.

HR screens, but Management hires.
