I don't understand those who say that RIFs have nothing to do with age. Maybe they should rethink that one?

Out with the old. In with the new. If you're over 50 I'd recommend dying your hair and getting a pair of skinny jeans. Lose the socks too. Just look to the CSuite for guidance on dressing to fit our culture and you will be fine. They don't want people who can't get a positive KD ratio in call of duty. Gamers only.
I agree that age had a lot to do with the decision to rif an employee. Probably because they made more money. But, that's going to happen when you work at a job for 20 years or more...
It is interesting that the only group not represented via a ESG is 55+ employees!
I agree. Since HR took control of who gets RIFd, salary, age, and race are now part of the equation for selecting who goes. Before HR got the reigns, you kept the people who could get the job done best.
I could not get my payout either unless I agreed also last year. It is obvious that salary which usually comes with age is a major factor.
I couldn’t get my payout until I signed a piece of paper, saying I would not sue the company
They have themselves covered
I had a director tell me once that his specialty was pushing out older and senior staff because they made too much money. It usually included a buy out amount that was too good to pass up. Ageism is real and I’m most of the structured payoffs on the wireless side I’ve been made aware of people suing and winning cases because of it.
